OverProtocol successfully launched its Layer 1 blockchain mainnet on September 4. The project aims to create a user-friendly platform enabling anyone to easily participate in a new peer-to-peer (P2P) financial system without requiring technical expertise. The core development team, Superblock, has raised $8 million focused on node optimization technologies and is committed to building a comprehensive ecosystem that lowers the barrier to entry for mainstream users.
To celebrate this milestone, OverProtocol will partner with leading crypto industry firms GSR and Jambo to host an event called "HangOver" on September 5. HangOver is expected to be one of the most anticipated side events at Korea Blockchain Week (KBW) 2024.
Prior to mainnet launch, OverProtocol conducted two testnet campaigns, attracting over 700,000 users who participated in Palm Staking via the OverWallet mobile app, enabling staking directly from mobile devices. Additionally, more than 40,000 users ran the lightweight node client OverNode on their personal computers, becoming validators on the blockchain network through Home Staking.
Following mainnet activation, two key ecosystem applications—OverFlex and OverScape—will receive major updates by the end of September. OverFlex, a super app integrating OverWallet with a real-world asset (RWA) marketplace, is expected to become central to OverProtocol's vision. OverScape, the rebranded identity of OverNode, symbolizes the dawn of a new P2P internet era fused with finance—akin to how Netscape revolutionized personal internet access in its time.
Furthermore, a large-scale airdrop will take place after the end-of-September update. OverProtocol founder Ben (Jae-Yun) Kim stated that the airdrop will reward community members who have contributed to the ecosystem over the past year. Following the airdrop, various community initiatives will be held with the goal of creating a blockchain environment that everyone can experience and enjoy in their daily lives.
