CEO Open Letter: On Its Seventh Anniversary, Bitget Breaks the Boundaries of CEX
Dare to break boundaries, and you can embark at full speed.
One day in June this year, I arrived in Mugello, central Italy, where the Italian round of the MotoGP World Championship was taking place.
As motorcycles roared past at high speed, their sharp engine sounds making the air itself seem to vibrate, a MotoGP staff member beside me suddenly said, "Did you know? These bikes can reach speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour—almost as fast as an airplane taking off."
I opened my mouth in astonishment and couldn't help asking, "To achieve such speed, the transmission must be incredibly powerful, right?"
He smiled: "Of course. These racing bikes typically have six gears. But simply shifting into sixth gear doesn't guarantee victory. True champions, in pursuit of greater speed, are always seeking ways beyond convention—like switching into a non-existent 'seventh gear'."
In that moment, the idea of the "non-existent seventh gear" took root in my mind. To lead the race isn't about mechanically shifting gears according to routine, but about constantly surpassing conventions and breaking limits. Likewise, building a trustworthy exchange requires exactly this kind of courage and breakthrough.
This year marks Bitget's seventh anniversary. We've chosen #GearUpTo7 as our theme—not just for the number itself, but because it symbolizes a mindset: only by daring to break boundaries can we truly accelerate forward.
The Challenger’s Mindset
Over the past seven years, Bitget has consistently played the role of a challenger and follower, which means we must work even harder. Here, we avoid office politics, focus on building and results, support one another, and move directly toward our goals. Along the way, we don’t chase short-term hype, but aim to build rational long-term strategies, innovate products, and optimize our ecosystem.
We’ve incubated and invested in Bitget Wallet and the Morph public chain, building an ecosystem for financial innovation. We launched GetAgent, the world’s first AI crypto trading assistant, to help users make smarter decisions. We’ve actively advanced public welfare initiatives such as Blockchain4Her, Blockchain4Youth, and our collaboration with UNICEF. These aren’t just corporate social responsibilities—they reflect our commitment to the community: making financial freedom more accessible to all.
This belief is also why we remain deeply passionate about the industry. Financial freedom means being able to control our own assets, no longer dependent on institutions and gatekeepers of the old era.
With technological evolution, I increasingly believe the exchange industry has moved beyond the simple dichotomy of centralized exchanges (CEX) and decentralized exchanges (DEX). CEXs offer limited asset choices; DEXs provide fragmented, complex user experiences. Each has strengths and weaknesses, but neither delivers a truly complete solution.
I firmly believe the ultimate outcome for CEX and DEX isn’t one replacing the other, but rather the creation of a unified solution—user-driven and continuously evolving. That’s why we’ve been working quietly to break the so-called “impossible trinity” of exchanges—making trade-offs between user experience, asset diversity, and security.
Breaking the Boundaries of CEX
Today, on Bitget’s seventh anniversary, I’m excited to introduce a new concept: the Universal Exchange (UEX).
UEX stands for Universal Exchange—a term we use to describe the next-generation exchange model. Unlike today’s CEXs, which typically support only hundreds of mainstream cryptocurrencies, UEX will support all tradable crypto assets. Moreover, UEX’s scope won’t be limited to cryptocurrencies alone—global quality assets such as stocks, ETFs, gold, and foreign exchange will all be tradable on UEX. This isn’t merely combining the advantages of CEX and DEX; it’s a fusion of technology and philosophy.
We believe that in the future, all exchanges—whether CEX or DEX—will become UEX. This transformation will not only vastly expand the types of assets users can trade, but also deliver smarter, safer trading experiences. The crypto world and Wall Street will advance together in unprecedented synergy.
What excites me most is the potential this trend unlocks for financial freedom. In the past, to trade stocks or assets from a certain country, you needed to provide local address verification, identity documents, and open specific accounts. Meanwhile, these traditional financial markets aren’t even open 24/7. Now, through UEX, a 24-hour, all-asset financial market becomes possible—one equally open to everyone.
UEX aligns closely with the philosophical spirit at the origin of the crypto industry—just as Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned: democratizing the financial world.
In Bitget’s roadmap from CEX to UEX, we’ll make breakthroughs across three key features:
-
Full Asset Coverage: Whether newly launched altcoins or RWA assets like stocks, you can now trade them all on Bitget. In early September, we became the first platform to support direct trading of over 100 US stock tokens using funds within the exchange. In the coming weeks, Bitget Onchain Trading will roll out another major update—we’ll connect to all assets on major public chains, enabling users to buy and trade millions of tokens directly using exchange funds. No more switching between platforms—every valuable asset you want to trade is already on Bitget.
-
AI Tool Integration: Today’s AI is no longer the unintelligent chatbot of old. While many crypto AIs still only summarize basic information, Bitget’s AI assistant—GetAgent—can learn your trading history, risk preferences, and asset distribution, and assist you in executing trades. Going forward, we plan to further leverage AI to streamline the experience: skip complicated learning curves, issue a command, and let AI handle all trading operations for you.
-
Advanced Security Protection: Security remains our top priority. UEX will combine the best on-chain and off-chain security practices—using intelligent tools to detect risks like honeypot scams in early-stage tokens, and relying on an ever-growing User Protection Fund to tackle even the most extreme security threats.
With the upcoming update to Bitget’s Onchain Trading product, we’ll support all on-chain assets across several major public chains. From that point onward, Bitget will no longer be defined as a centralized exchange (CEX), but as the world’s first Universal Exchange (UEX).
The Marathoner’s Mindset
Many Asian cultures use the metaphor of a journey to describe life. I especially appreciate this philosophical insight from Xunzi: "Without accumulating small steps, one cannot travel a thousand miles." Bitget’s past seven years have been a marathon. Throughout this journey, we’ve stayed guided by "users first," avoiding short-term gains and instead laying solid foundations step by step—with a "long-termism" mindset, steadfast through bull and bear markets.
On our seventh anniversary, looking back, Bitget’s growth path has resonated with industry cycles. Looking ahead, I believe competition among exchanges isn’t a zero-sum game between CEX, DEX, or traditional brokers, but rather an era of breaking norms and achieving collaborative win-win outcomes.
The Universal Exchange (UEX) is our blueprint for building the future of finance—a world where financial services are no longer a privilege, but a fundamental right for all. We’re dismantling traditional barriers that have excluded billions from the global financial system. As a UEX, Bitget will empower users worldwide with the tools and pathways to participate in financial transformation, truly realizing inclusive finance for everyone.
Finally, I want to thank Bitget’s 120 million users and 2,181 employees. I’m thrilled to share this milestone with you, and to keep striving to bring the future of financial transformation to all 8 billion people on Earth.
Seven is a magical number, often representing a cycle. Jehovah created the world in seven days; Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment after seven weeks meditating under the Bodhi tree. Bitget’s first seven years have been an extraordinary cycle. Now, we set out again—not to repeat the circle, but to climb higher peaks. Let’s #GearUpTo7 and move forward into the future—together!
