On April 24, the free sci-fi shooter game Voyager: Ascension launched first on Gala Games. Developed by the relatively unknown game studio RFLXT, this title has drawn continuous attention over the past two weeks primarily due to promotion from Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson. Not only did he announce on April 12 that "our first game is coming soon," but he also posted a video on X just before Voyager: Ascension went live, sharing the story of RFLXT and Voyager.
According to Charles Hoskinson, he serves as a board member of RFLXT, which is described as a "spin-off company" of Input Output Global (IOG), the developer behind Cardano. Regarding the widely asked question—“Why choose GalaChain instead of Cardano?”—RFLXT explained, “Helping raise awareness and expand the reach of games built on Cardano is one of our key focuses. However, we also believe it’s important for RFLXT to collaborate with multiple chains and platforms, as we aim to drive industry growth and development in entirely new ways.” RFLXT added that interoperability is central to their mission, and Gala aligns closely with that vision.
Founded in 2019, Gala Games is a veteran Web3 gaming platform that has weathered both bull and bear markets. This year, it has stood out notably, with its GALA token achieving a peak increase of 170% year-to-date. Even after market corrections, as of April 25, it still maintained an approximately 60% gain. Additionally, according to DeGame statistics, there are now over 260,000 addresses holding tokens or NFT assets issued by the platform. As more investors recognize the narrative potential of Web3 gaming, Gala Games—having already secured a strong foothold—is clearly a force to be reckoned with in this space. What games does the platform offer, and which ones have breakout potential? This article reviews Gala's ecosystem, providing brief introductions to 11 selected titles from its current lineup of 19 games.
Voyager: Ascension
Voyager: Ascension traces its origins back to 2018, originally named Overload, created by some of the developers behind the classic PC shooter Descent. Following RFLXT’s strategy of “bringing veteran PC game developers into the Web3 world,” the addition of blockchain elements led to the evolution of Overload into Voyager: Ascension. Notably, Overload is currently available on Steam for $30, with over 1,400 reviews and a 94% positive rating (“Overwhelmingly Positive”). The gameplay of Voyager: Ascension, offered for free on Gala, remains largely identical. Currently, only single-player mode is available, with multiplayer modes planned for future release.

Common Ground World (formerly Town Star)
Common Ground World is a farming simulation and management game, and Gala Games’ first self-developed flagship title. It was co-created by a founder of social gaming giant Zynga and other creative minds behind hits like FarmVille and Words With Friends. In September last year, Gala partnered with the sequel to the well-known environmental documentary Kiss the Ground, titled Common Ground. Given the alignment between the film’s regenerative agriculture theme and the game’s concept, the brand name was changed from Town Star to Common Ground World. Similar to FarmVille, core gameplay revolves around agricultural cultivation and construction, including building, upgrading, animal husbandry, and social interactions. Players earn points based on product value and production difficulty, qualifying them for leaderboards and potential token rewards.

Spider Tank
Spider Tank is a free, fast-paced PvP fighting game and the first blockchain game on Project GYRI, Gala’s ecosystem-based blockchain initiative. Developed by Dutch studio GAMEDIA, it officially launched in October 2022. Players begin by selecting from various tank chassis and weapons in the garage, customizing four components—chassis, weapons, skins, and items—according to personal preference. The chassis determines core attributes such as armor, speed, and energy, making it the most crucial part. Spider Tank offers six game modes centered around objectives like elimination, escort, and defense, including team PvP battles, capture-the-flag, king-of-the-hill, and chicken chase, aiming to deliver diverse experiences for players of all preferences. In non-free battle matches, winning players earn honor and points redeemable for Silk tokens.

Mirandus
A fantasy role-playing game set in a vast world ruled by five player-elected monarchs. Mirandus offers high freedom: players can battle monsters in the wild, deep forests, and dungeons, serve as a knight under one of the monarchs, or shop in cities. Player ownership of in-game assets is central to Mirandus’ design. Land deeds allow players to claim wilderness areas and build fortresses ranging from small farms to full-scale cities. The game features multiple NFT types, including land deeds, ships, buildings, and graveyards. Importantly, players must own an Exemplar avatar to enter the game. Limited to 50,000 total Exemplars, these avatars come in categories such as human, elf, and orc. Mirandus is still under development; the team plans to introduce additional character types beyond Exemplars in the future to accommodate more players.

GRIT
A Western-themed Web3 battle royale game and one of the first Web3 titles to launch on the Epic Games Store, developed by Team Grit. In early 2022, Gala Games acquired TeamGRIT and its game GRIT, beginning integration of Web3 features. GRIT offers multiple modes—solo, duo, and team—immersing players in gunfights at town squares, duels across dusty plains, and chaos along the Pacific Railroad. As a free-to-play title, GRIT includes reward mechanisms such as Generative Hero NFTs, the GRIT Battle Pass, and in-game items earned from victory in battle royale mode—all serving as digital assets that can generate income for players.

CHAMPIONS ARENA
A turn-based RPG developed by South Korean studio OneUniverse. CHAMPIONS ARENA blends strategy with diverse exploration options. From mining Champion Lands to enhancing PvE combat with your "Champion," and progressing through arenas and PvP duels, players have a wide range of gameplay choices. Chaos Mode is the primary mode for free players, allowing them to send Champions to explore lands and gather basic resources. Another major mode is Challenge, featuring two zones: Arena and Tower of Trials. In the Arena, players battle to accumulate ranking points and earn rewards based on rank and number of victories. Players using NFT Champions minted on GalaChain have the opportunity to earn $GALA rewards.

Superior
An NFT-driven roguelite third-person shooter developed by Drifter, set to launch on Gala. Superior stands out visually with an art style reminiscent of Borderlands’ comic aesthetic. It offers single-player, group, and random party modes, with core gameplay shaped by the chosen character. Currently, three heroes—Ronin, Nomad, and Murmur—are available, corresponding to melee, ranged, and item-based playstyles. Players form teams of three and select their hero before queuing into a match. All characters are free to try, though premium NFT versions offer enhanced experience gains and rewards. Notably, the non-Web3 version, Superior: Vengeance, is already available on Steam, receiving around 76% positive feedback from over 100 user reviews.

Echoes of Empire
A free 4X strategy game—where 4X stands for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate—developed by Ion Games and launched on Gala Games earlier this year. In Echoes of Empire, each player leads a noble house, commanding a massive space station base with capabilities to explore known space, mine celestial bodies, build spacecraft, and engage enemies. Success hinges on leveraging resources and strategic planning to maximize efficiency and growth. The game is structured around various interactive systems categorized into exploration, combat, trading, expansion, missions, land, management, supply, and maintenance. The primary goal is to enhance one’s influence and prominence across the galaxy. Stardust, the in-game token, forms the core of the game’s incentive system and can be exchanged for $GALA rewards.

LAST EXPEDITION
A cyberpunk-style PvPvE extraction FPS currently in Pre-Alpha stage, offering early access via Gala. Gameplay in Last Expedition emphasizes not only survival but also strategy. After accepting a mission, players select a "drop zone" from their base and aim to collect three "fragments," while securing the "core" before safely extracting. As players navigate the map, they encounter various enemies and challenges. The PvPvE mechanics mean players face not only AI-controlled foes but also competing teams, making every mission unpredictable.

THE WALKING DEAD: EMPIRES
A survival game set in the universe of AMC’s The Walking Dead series, combining combat mechanics, traditional RPG crafting systems, base-building, and alliance features. Building a secure base is essential for survival—players must establish defenses to protect against zombies and other players. Bases can also function as activity hubs where others can trade, fight, or hunt, earning rewards in return. The crafting system is another vital survival mechanic: owning NFT workstations allows players to create specific in-game items for personal use or to sell to allies. As a free-to-play game, TWDE integrates NFTs to provide advanced advantages, such as pistols, Molotov cocktails, and crafting tools.

Meow Match
A match-3 puzzle game developed by Ember Entertainment. Like all tile-matching games, Meow Match offers hundreds of levels, each presenting unique challenges and adorable cats. Progressing through levels requires color matching, tactical thinking, and strategic planning—players must connect and explode balls of the same color to advance. A key highlight is its cat-centric theme, allowing players to discover and collect various cat breeds, each with distinct charm and personality. The game is available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
