Recently, the Web3 gaming sector has begun gaining momentum. Previously stagnant tokens like StepN and TreasureDAO have shown strong performance. SIPHER, the token of Sipher Odyssey—a project that only secured funding near the end of the last bull market—has surged sixfold in just one month, standing out as particularly impressive.
In October this year, Alex Svanevik, founder of blockchain analytics platform Nansen, noted that within the next six months, games developed over the past two-plus years would begin launching. While most of these will likely fail, a few may achieve massive success—one of which could be Sipher Odyssey.
It’s time to get to know this Web3 shooter game.
1. Gameplay
Sipher Odyssey is a Web3 first-person shooter role-playing game with a relatively simple storyline. Set in a dreamlike universe filled with alien worlds, vivid characters, and dangerous mysteries, it tells the legend of a virtual cosmos created by god-like artificial intelligence where humanity is reborn. Players must fight to explore and protect their new home.

Players can choose from various game modes and different weapons, achieving victory by shooting enemies or completing mission objectives. The game maps are uniquely designed, featuring diverse environments such as Kroll Island, the Himalayas, Doomsday Construction, Abandoned City, and Desert Treasure Island. Each map includes multiple hidden combat positions, varied cover points, and other elements that help players perform at their best.
Gameplay includes PvP, PvE, and open-world metaverse experiences. Players must skillfully maneuver their heroes to dodge traps and enemy attacks while defeating opponents.
In the PvE dungeon mode, players collect characters and use them for adventures, battling hostile creatures and robots. They must complete dungeons within a time limit and enhance their capabilities through crafting and upgrading equipment, unlocking new heroes, and completing faction missions. This progression allows players to advance the story and explore the Siphers universe.
In PvP mode, players form three-member squads and control characters in battles against others, similar to a hero brawler format. The goal is to eliminate enemies and survive within a set time. By learning new skills, unlocking new characters, weapons, and classes, and winning weekly/monthly/quarterly tournaments, players earn token rewards. Players can also join gangs or guilds and recruit powerful members to fight for them.

The open-world metaverse features social interactions, gear forging, and NFT cloning. Players can generate economic returns by trading these on-chain assets on the in-game marketplace. Additionally, the team encourages players to build their own communities and subcultures within this open world and plans to introduce future mechanisms such as live streaming gameplay and fan donations to reward players with tokens.
Siphers Character NFTs
NFTs come in varying rarities: Normal, Infected, Cybernetic, and Cosmic-featured. Notably, holding an NFT grants access to exclusive Sipher comic content.
Sipherian Surge (Sipher Inu Race)
These character NFTs are designed around Shiba Inu dogs. With a total supply of 10,000, they launched at 0.1 ETH each and sold out in under 15 minutes. The current floor price has rebounded to 0.08 ETH, marking a monthly increase of 96%. The all-time trading volume stands at 6,512 ETH, with 12.08 ETH traded in the past month alone—an 184% monthly surge.

Sipherian Surge (Sipher Neko Race)
Designed around cats, these NFTs currently have a floor price of 0.0448 ETH, reflecting a slight monthly decline of 0.44%. Total historical trading volume exceeds 1,500 ETH, with 5.17 ETH traded in the last month—an 76% monthly increase.

2. Investment Background and Economic Model
Both investment rounds for Sipher Odyssey occurred toward the end of the previous bull cycle. On October 26, 2021, Sipher raised $6.8 million in a round led by Arrington Capital, Hashed, and Konvoy Ventures. Participants included Defiance Capital, Signum Capital, Dragonfly Capital, CMT Digital, BitKraft Ventures, Delphi Digital, Alameda Research, Fenbushi Capital, Sfermion, Hyperchain, GBV, Kyber Network, Coin98 Ventures, YGG, and Merit Circle. Angel investors included Holly Liu, founder of Kabam, and Alex Svanevik, CEO of Nansen.
Just one month later, Sipher announced its public token sale with a total supply of one billion tokens. It adopted a dual-token model: governance token $SIPHER and in-game currency $ATHER. The economy operates in a loop of “battle → resource acquisition → upgrade → trade → battle,” and using the in-game marketplace reduces gas fees.
The official announcement stated a total raise of $44 million (9,950.1314 ETH), with participation from 13,159 investors. The $SIPHER token price was set at 0.00024 ETH. Based on Ethereum's then-price of approximately $4,100, this equated to a per-token cost of $0.984. Although the token price has increased over sixfold in the past month, as of writing, it remains about 70% below the public sale price.

Token Distribution:
- 30.4% allocated to game incentives and marketing, locked for one month, then unlocked based on time and demand;
- 25% allocated to team and advisors, locked for 16 months, then linearly unlocked over 24 months;
- 14% allocated to foundation and reserves, locked for 30 months, then linearly unlocked over 24 months;
- 11.3% for seed round funding, locked for 16 months, then linearly unlocked over 18 months;
- 10% for listing and liquidity incentives, 15% unlocked at TGE, remainder linearly unlocked over 11 months;
- 5% for strategic round funding, locked for 16 months, then linearly unlocked over 18 months;
- 4% for public sale, 100% unlocked at TGE;
- 0.3% for promotions and partnerships, locked for 3 months, then linearly unlocked over 12 months.
$SIPHER tokens can be staked, used to clone new characters, craft rare equipment, receive a share of marketplace fees, and grant voting rights on future development decisions. $ATHER serves as a reward token and can be burned to level up characters, skills, gear, and other in-game items, as well as to pay cloning fees.
Sipher’s official website features a dedicated staking page for easy participation. Longer lock-up periods yield higher shares and rewards. At the time of writing, the total value of staked tokens exceeds $2.7 million.
3. Team Members
Founder Tin Nguyen is a prominent Vietnamese entrepreneur and a rare serial founder who was once ranked among Vietnam’s top 30 on the Forbes list. A graduate of the University of Melbourne, he founded Dreamplex in 2015, a company specializing in co-working spaces and social hubs. In May 2021, he跨界entered the gaming industry to launch Sipher Odyssey. As of now, his personal X account has 12,000 followers, while Sipher’s X account boasts over 100,000 followers.

The team now consists of over 160 members. The local Vietnamese team is primarily based in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi, while international members are spread across the United States, Europe, Singapore, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Indonesia.
Recently, SIPHER announced a collaboration with Metacade to build a virtual video mall. As the overall Web3 gaming sector shows signs of recovery, Sipher Odyssey’s future development is worth watching closely.
