Opinion: "Chain abstraction" will become the next big trend after "modularization"
The "chain abstraction" will also go through a phase in the short term primarily focused on infrastructure and application narratives.

The news that @ParticleNtwrk received investment from Binance Labs has sparked widespread market discussion. Some see it as a market signal that $PARTI has secured Binance's backing early on. However, I’d like to reiterate my view: "chain abstraction" will become the next major trend following "modularization." Beyond VC and exchange enthusiasm, the entire ecosystem across this sector has been quietly maturing for years.
1) Although chain abstraction and modularization share common roots, modularization aims to improve development composability and boost infrastructure growth in the market, while chain abstraction focuses on enhancing user experience to pave the way for rapid expansion of new users. Therefore, both fundamentally inject productive efficiency into crypto, but chain abstraction is more grounded and represents the next evolution after modularization.
2) At first glance, chain abstraction may also seem like an abstract narrative, but its emergence indicates that development resources in the market are now abundant and competition has become intense. The reason is simple: with modularization, one only needs to pick any layer—DA, execution, interoperability—and differentiate at a single point to paint a grand vision. Chain abstraction, however, demands much more.
Chain abstraction must excel across market operations, resource accessibility, capital accumulation, and user experience reputation. Particle Network stands out as one of the leading examples in this space.
3) Behind chain abstraction lies strong product-driven influence from mature web2 practices. While past web3 wallets, chains, and protocols were often criticized as amateurish, with increasing involvement of mainstream web capital and talent, web2’s product design, operational expertise, and business systems are gradually permeating into web3. For a long time, such products operated quietly in the background; now, as “chain abstraction” moves into the spotlight, they have greater opportunities to surface and gain recognition.
4) Besides Particle, here are several other projects across the stack:
1) @ProjectZKM uses ZK technology to build a unified liquidity aggregation hub, abstracting liquidity across EVM and Non-EVM chains like BTC;
2) @dappOS_com launched a Solver execution network, driving the shift toward intent-based transaction models from the application service side;
3) @ApertureFinance integrates customized intent-based trading experiences and has already built a large user base across both institutional (B2B) and retail (B2C) markets;
4) @cyclenetwork_GO offers a bridgeless, omnichain liquidity unification protocol and also benefits from Binance incubation support;
Additionally, many others such as @NEARProtocol, @bentobatch, @khalani_network are optimizing front-end experiences or even integrating AI agents into their platforms and services.
From upstream standards like ERC4337, to service protocols enabling unified liquidity orchestration, all the way down to consumer-facing applications with established user bases on both enterprise and retail sides, the chain abstraction sector appears relatively mature, offering more practical use cases and clearer commercial potential. (This will also lead to different valuation frameworks in the secondary market.)
Overall, in the short term, the narrative around chain abstraction will likely remain infrastructure-first ("infra > application"), raising concerns about FOMO-driven proliferation of new protocols and chains repeating modularization’s pitfalls. Yet chain abstraction requires comprehensive capabilities, leading to faster consolidation and competition. More importantly, the underlying industry evolution and advancement driven by mature product thinking should not be underestimated—it deserves long-term attention and exploration.
