Kava 10 Mainnet Preview Released: The Kava Network 1.0 Era is About to Begin
Kava has positioned itself as a standalone Layer-1 network powering a wide range of widely-used DeFi products, and thus has gained early insights into the value of optimization.

Article by: KAVA Chinese Community
We are excited to announce that Kava is entering its next phase in 2022—after establishing itself as a powerful, scalable Layer-1 network and ecosystem supporting top-tier DeFi products, Kava will soon upgrade to the Kava 10 mainnet, marking the beginning of a bright future filled with limitless potential.
Introducing the new Kava Network: a lightning-fast Layer-1 blockchain featuring a unique co-chain architecture that combines the speed and interoperability of the Cosmos SDK with the flexibility and developer-friendly capabilities of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
So, what exactly is the Kava Network, and why is this transformation happening now?
The Multichain Future
It’s clear that the future of the blockchain industry is "multichain." To address Ethereum's inability to handle Web3-scale throughput demands, numerous alternative Layer-1 blockchains have emerged, each offering different solutions for transaction speed and scalability.
However, rather than replacing Ethereum, this trend has led to the realization that different networks may be better suited to serve specific verticals. As developers, applications, and users chase more opportunities and value, their assets flow from one chain to another.
This multichain approach means optimization for a specific set of developers or use cases is key. Layer-1 blockchains must deliver targeted value to the developers and users they serve.
Positioned as a standalone Layer-1 network powering widely used DeFi products, Kava has long understood the importance of optimization. Observing the rise of the multichain future, Kava identified an opportunity to apply its optimization-driven model to deliver even greater value to developers and users—unlocking tremendous growth potential in the process.

The New Kava Network
The new Kava Network is a highly optimized "co-chain" network designed to deliver the development frameworks of two of the largest Web3 ecosystems within a single network.
Kava chose to build on the Cosmos SDK because it was evident at the time that Ethereum's architecture could not support a massively decentralized future. The Cosmos SDK enables superior scalability and unlocks access to a growing ecosystem of blockchains and applications.
Yet, Kava also recognized that the Ethereum ecosystem and its developers cannot simply be replaced. For any Layer-1 blockchain to successfully build a truly active and widely used Web3 application ecosystem, it must provide a smooth transition for developers and users looking to bring their products or assets onto the network.
That’s why Kava Network is implementing a co-chain architecture, featuring dedicated chains for both EVM and Cosmos SDK development environments. Through a translation module, these two chains seamlessly collaborate, integrating the two most widely used Web3 ecosystems into a single unified network.
Introducing the "Co-Chain"
Within the Kava Network, the existing Kava blockchain will become the Cosmos Co-Chain, while the Ethereum Co-Chain currently under development will launch in May alongside the Kava 10 mainnet upgrade.
These two co-chains operate seamlessly with each other, enabling developers to build in their preferred environment without sacrificing access to users and assets on the other.

The Kava Network uses a unique co-chain architecture to deliver the best of both Cosmos and Ethereum to developers and users
Think of it like the two hemispheres of a brain—one optimized for Cosmos ecosystem developers, the other for Ethereum ecosystem developers. A translation module connects these two distinct execution environments, allowing them to work together seamlessly at scale.
This bundles the two most widely used execution environments into a single network: two chains, one network. Ethereum meets Cosmos through Kava Network’s powerful, developer-optimized Layer-1 architecture.
The entire network is powered by the Tendermint consensus engine, secured by validators and stakers, and governed by KavaDAO. Additionally, an industry-first on-chain developer incentive model will drive massive growth through an open and transparent distribution process.
KavaDAO is a fully decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) governing the Kava Network. KAVA stakers and validators who help secure and operate the network will be able to propose and vote on governance proposals affecting the Kava Network.
Opportunities
According to Messari.io, the combined total value locked (TVL) across the Ethereum and Cosmos ecosystems exceeds $67.4 billion. Yet, no fully functional Layer-1 blockchain currently exists that allows developers to access both development environments and their ecosystems within a single network.
The opportunity created by combining these two ecosystems is immense. Data from industry portfolio tracker DappRadar shows Ethereum has over 4,000 active open-source ecosystem developers monthly and approximately 1,360 active dApps.
In the Cosmos ecosystem, more than 260 projects are built on the Cosmos SDK, with 33 active Zones integrated via IBC, completing hundreds of thousands of cross-chain value transfers daily.
Establishing a development hub connecting these two ecosystems will generate significant activity for projects enabling this connection, create additional value for both Cosmos and Ethereum, and unlock greater earning opportunities for everyone involved.
