Taiko has launched its pre-confirmation mechanism on the Ethereum mainnet, ushering in a new era of Ethereum scaling
Taiko has launched the first phase of pre-confirmation, accelerating transaction finality on the mainnet while adhering to decentralization principles, opening new possibilities for the development of Based Rollups.

As the first Based Rollup built natively on Ethereum's mechanisms, Taiko has successfully launched the first phase of its pre-confirmation mechanism on the Ethereum mainnet. This deployment will be gradually rolled out from August 11 to 13 to authorized pre-confirmation whitelist addresses. This milestone significantly enhances transaction predictability and overall usability for Based Rollups, advancing Taiko as a truly viable and decentralized Ethereum scaling solution.
With the launch of Phase One pre-confirmation, Taiko achieves transaction confirmation in approximately two seconds while fully maintaining decentralization. This unlocks new possibilities for DeFi, GameFi, and enterprise applications, eliminating the need to choose between speed and decentralization.
Breaking the Blockchain Trilemma
For years, the blockchain industry has struggled with the trade-off between fast but centralized rollups and decentralized yet slower solutions. Pre-confirmation technology completely breaks this "either speed or decentralization" paradigm.
Joaquin Mendes, COO at Taiko Labs, said:
"We are proud to bring pre-confirmation to mainnet, further proving that Based Rollup is the best way to scale Ethereum. With pre-confirmation, we'll see a new generation of dApps and Ethereum ecosystem growth that no longer depends on or compromises with centralization. Now, developers and users can enjoy both decentralization and scalability without sacrificing core principles. For the first time, decentralization is truly combined with secure and efficient performance."
Based Rollups use Ethereum’s own validators instead of centralized sequencers, representing the purest form of Ethereum scaling. However, they were previously limited by Ethereum’s 12-second block time. Now, pre-confirmation enables near-instant transaction finality while preserving Ethereum’s core "minimal trust" model.
Industry Collaboration Drives Innovation
To ensure smooth operation of pre-confirmation across the network, Taiko closely collaborated with teams including Chainbound, Gattaca, and Nethermind to bring "trustless real speed" to Ethereum.
Kubi Mensah, Co-Founder and CEO of Gattaca, said:
"We're thrilled to see Based Rollup go live on the Taiko mainnet for the first time. We conducted extensive testing to ensure this critical innovation lands stably—this benefits not only Taiko users but also advances the entire Ethereum ecosystem."
This performance boost positions Based Rollups ahead of other scaling solutions in addressing the "blockchain trilemma." As a true extension of Ethereum, Taiko retains its security and decentralization advantages while now delivering transaction performance comparable to centralized rollups.
Tomasz Stańczak, Founder of Nethermind, said:
"With pre-confirmation, we can scale Ethereum without compromising its core principles. We've thoroughly validated its security and are very satisfied with the results of this launch with Taiko."
For developers, pre-confirmation means they no longer need to sacrifice project control for efficiency, nor worry about centralized L2s interfering with sequencing under certain circumstances.
Francesco Mosterts, Co-Founder of Chainbound, said:
"It's exciting to see another major step forward in Ethereum scaling. With pre-confirmation, we can achieve seamless, silky-smooth transaction experiences without introducing new trust assumptions. This is a crucial step in aligning Ethereum scaling with its original vision, delivering better experiences for users, developers, and validators alike."
Future Outlook
Taiko’s architecture is inherently designed to combine decentralization with high performance, though its ecosystem continues to evolve. This launch marks the first phase of pre-confirmation, currently involving permissioned pre-confirmers. The upcoming second phase will introduce a permissionless, open pre-confirmation mechanism, fulfilling the complete vision of decentralized scaling.
