Research shows that 71.6% of consumers unknowingly purchase counterfeit goods when seeking authentic products, and even the most vigilant shoppers struggle to distinguish fakes from genuine items.
Worse still, one-third of counterfeit purchases occur on platforms different from where they were originally advertised. Counterfeiters are operating across multiple platforms and channels, making it increasingly difficult for brands to track and enforce their intellectual property rights.
It is precisely in response to this challenge that MarqVision was founded—to safeguard and build a future driven by original thinking, creativity, and innovation.

02. Marq AI Empowers Brand Protection
With the rapid growth of e-commerce platforms, counterfeit goods and digital piracy have surged, causing reputational and financial damage to numerous brands. Counterfeit goods and digital piracy are no longer mere nuisances—they represent a $2 trillion global problem.

It's not just physical goods—3% of counterfeit purchases now occur via AI-powered chatbots. Counterfeiters hide behind private messages, making them nearly impossible to catch without advanced technology. Traditional brand protection methods fall short against this trend, while advances in artificial intelligence offer new solutions for brand management.
Given the accelerating pace of transformation facing enterprises today, it's time to deploy new weapons.

With its latest $16 million funding round, MarqVision has launched its new generative AI product, Marq AI:
-
Conversation Assistant: As social commerce thrives, so too does the hidden trade in counterfeits through private messaging. The Marq AI Conversation Assistant uses artificial intelligence to scan and analyze messages across platforms and languages for the world’s largest brands, identifying counterfeit sales with over 99% accuracy. It gathers actionable evidence quickly while staying ahead of evolving tactics used by counterfeiters to conceal their activities.
-
Smart Dashboard: Data is only useful when actionable. The redesigned dashboard goes beyond pie charts and numbers, providing users with detailed insights into why each item was flagged as counterfeit. No more inflated detection metrics—only factual analysis of detected items.
-
Automated Copyright Workflows: Since the pandemic began, digital piracy has increased by 36%, demanding faster and more scalable ways to handle copyright infringement. Marq AI automates the entire process—from data collection to sending enforcement notices. Tasks that once took 20 hours per week can now be completed with just a few clicks.
-
Intelligent Enforcement: What sets Marq AI apart is its ability to continuously learn and improve. Over time, it becomes smarter, automatically executing enforcement actions such as issuing takedown requests and soft warnings, saving expert teams significant time previously spent on manual enforcement efforts.
03. MarqVision × Xiaomi Indonesia
Since its founding in 2010, Xiaomi has rapidly grown into one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers and a top Chinese enterprise. In Indonesia, Xiaomi holds strong influence but faces challenges from counterfeit products and intellectual property violations that threaten brand value and hinder market expansion.

To sustain growth and customer trust, Xiaomi Indonesia recognizes the importance of protecting its brand reputation and intellectual property. As central management lead for Xiaomi Indonesia, Farid Harahap oversees smooth operations, including legal compliance and IP protection. Additionally, Xiaomi Indonesia must contend with parallel imports—gray market activities that infringe upon its intellectual property rights.
Given the breadth and complexity of its product portfolio, Xiaomi Indonesia chose to partner with MarqVision to leverage its technology and optimize brand protection processes. Xiaomi selected 500 product assets for protection. MarqVision’s AI software regularly scans online marketplaces, detecting and reporting counterfeit goods and infringing accounts, while using seller intelligence features to trace and identify repeat offenders.
Harahap emphasizes that MarqVision’s fast response and customized service are crucial for Xiaomi Indonesia, helping balance business expansion, counterfeit risk investigations, and commitments to social responsibility. This collaboration enables Xiaomi Indonesia to mitigate the impact of counterfeit goods on revenue and brand reputation, raise consumer awareness about authenticity—and in a market like Indonesia, where counterfeiting is rampant, contributes positively to national economic growth and employment.
With MarqVision, Xiaomi Indonesia successfully increased takedown success rates for infringing products to 99%, automatically detecting 5,000 items monthly without requiring additional effort, thereby expanding its protection scope seamlessly. This innovative brand protection strategy ensures Xiaomi’s long-term business growth in the Indonesian market.
04. The Long Road Ahead in Combating Piracy
TikTok, a massive platform attracting 1 billion users monthly worldwide, faces serious challenges from widespread pirated content. Unauthorized clips—from classic films to the latest blockbusters—frequently appear in users’ feeds, raising concerns about copyright protection. Particularly among younger audiences, consuming pirated media is becoming normalized, further complicating anti-piracy efforts.
TikTok’s transparency reports show a steady rise in intellectual property violations in recent years. While TikTok expresses willingness to collaborate with companies on brand protection, the platform’s growing user base and limitations in content moderation mean brands must take proactive steps to protect their own intellectual property.

The impact of piracy on the media industry is profound. It deprives copyright holders of rightful revenue from their content and may also degrade audience experience.
Although some brands have tried using TikTok as a promotional channel to redirect users to paid platforms for better viewing experiences, this strategy has yet to prove effective. Meanwhile, media monetization on TikTok remains generally low, making it difficult for media companies to achieve substantial returns.
In response to piracy on TikTok, brands need to take active measures to protect their intellectual property. On one hand, they can rely on TikTok’s cooperation in responding to takedown requests; on the other, brands must take initiative by leveraging technologies like artificial intelligence to monitor and combat piracy.
In conclusion, whether on TikTok or other media and brand platforms, piracy remains a complex and serious challenge. However, with the emergence of AI-powered copyright protection platforms like MarqVision, there is hope for meaningful progress. Only through joint efforts by platforms, brands, and consumers can we build a healthy, sustainable social media and consumer ecosystem.
