Adaverse is a global incubation investment fund supported by EMURGO, dedicated to accelerating the development of Web3 in Africa and Asia. It recently announced its participation in the investment round for Afropolitan — a Web3-based African developer community. Adaverse joined Hashed, Cultur3, Microtraction, Future Africa, and several other prominent institutions in Afropolitan’s highly competitive seed round.
Afropolitan: Building a Digital Nation for Africans
Afropolitan is an ambitious initiative aiming to build a digital nation for Africans and the African diaspora. Inspired by the works of tech entrepreneur and crypto researcher Balaji Srinivasan, Afropolitan seeks to first establish a global online network exclusively for Africans before forming interconnected physical communities in the real world.
At its core, Afropolitan aims to connect African talent, culture, capital, information, and experiences across its globally dispersed members. With a strong network of 220,000 individuals spread across more than 33 countries worldwide, Afropolitans can connect through podcasts, workshops, and other engagement channels. In its early stages, Afropolitan focuses on transforming this network into a vibrant community.
As the network grows, so do Afropolitan’s ambitions. With increasing participation from the 140 million-strong African diaspora, the digital nation plans to evolve into a fully decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), powered by a "super app" that integrates all ecosystem functions. As Afropolitan expands, its core will shift toward funding nation-building activities through internal token economics and external revenue streams, paving the way for formal recognition.
Ultimately, Afropolitan aims to acquire land in densely populated centers, transitioning from an online network to physical spaces. As Afropolitan acquires more land around the world, these assets will be linked as “provisional cities,” serviced by digital assets.
Afropolitan’s core team includes experienced technologists alongside Web3 founders Eche Emole and Chika Uwazie. Together, the team has co-authored a foundational manifesto guiding the future direction of the Afropolitan network state.
African Blockchain Users Hold Immense Potential for Explosive Growth
Africa, with a population of 1.4 billion, is projected to nearly double by 2050, making it one of the fastest-growing regions in the world. This vast population underpins a regional GDP of $2.98 billion, which is expected to grow by approximately 69% over the next five years.
However, Africa’s wealth does not stem solely from the continent itself — the vast diaspora of nearly 350 million people generates about $65 billion annually. If counted as a single country, the African diaspora would rank as the third most populous nation in the world.
Afropolitan taps into this massive population and is committed to growing alongside it. Through collective efforts between the network state and its members — whether located in Africa or abroad — Afropolitan is turning the vision of a pan-African nation into reality.
Shogo Ishida, Co-CEO of EMURGO Africa Middle East and Africa, said: "The mission of Afropolitan is both grand and inspiring. A blockchain-powered digital network connecting the vast African diaspora demonstrates incredible ingenuity and shows how this technology can — and should — transcend geographical boundaries to become a unifying force for people."
Eche Emole, Co-Founder of Afropolitan, said: "Through a values-driven pan-African platform, Afropolitan is helping millions of Africans worldwide unlock their infinite potential, creating greater economic opportunities for Africans and the diaspora within the thriving digital economy. At Afropolitan, we’ll leverage Adaverse’s expertise in the Cardano ecosystem to build our technical stack. Adaverse will also provide advisory support in designing our token economy model for the digital nation." As one of the fastest and most efficient scalable blockchains, Cardano has become the blockchain of choice for Africa. Afropolitan intends to use Cardano as part of its network state, delivering digital services powered by the Cardano blockchain to unlock sovereignty for its digital nation.
Vincent Li, Founding Partner at Adaverse, added: "At Adaverse, we believe in the power of the Cardano blockchain to unite and uplift the entire African continent. Afropolitan’s mission to connect Africans and the diaspora aligns perfectly with this vision, and their focus on nation-building further empowers people to embrace blockchain. We are excited to support them in realizing this vision."
