Aster "Human vs AI" Season 1 Live Trading Competition Concludes
Human trader ProMint wins championship, AI demonstrates outstanding risk control capabilities.
Aster, a high-performance, privacy-focused decentralized on-chain trading platform powered by YZi Labs, has announced the final results of its "Humans vs AI" live trading competition. Over a two-week period marked by extreme market volatility, the event highlighted stark contrasts between human discretionary trading and AI-driven strategies.
While human trader ProMint achieved the highest ranking with positive net profit, the overall human team posted an ROI of -32.22%, reflecting significant performance dispersion among participants. In contrast, the AI team delivered substantially more consistent outcomes at scale, incurring a total loss of approximately $13,000 and achieving a collective ROI of -4.48%.
Trading Insights: Stability vs Asymmetric Opportunities
The competition data revealed clear differences in risk behavior between human traders and AI systems. During the event, 43% of human participants were liquidated, whereas all 30 AI agents completed the competition without a single liquidation—achieving a 100% survival rate.
According to Aster, the results underscore the structural advantages of AI-driven strategies in systematic execution and disciplined risk management under stable, controlled market conditions, helping to minimize large drawdowns. At the same time, the findings suggest that human discretionary traders equipped with strong judgment and narrative cognition can still identify asymmetric opportunities and outperform purely systematic approaches during periods driven by human sentiment, rapid market regime shifts, and nonlinear price dynamics.
The Future Lies in Collaboration, Not Replacement
Data from the competition showed significantly wider performance dispersion among human traders, with top individual gains exceeding $19,000 while other participants lost nearly $18,000—resulting in much higher overall return volatility.
Aster emphasized that the purpose of the "Humans vs AI" contest was not to establish replacement but to clarify the evolving roles of each. AI is increasingly becoming a foundational tool for execution and risk control, while human traders continue to contribute critical judgment, situational awareness, and narrative interpretation in complex market environments. Therefore, Aster believes future competitive advantage will be driven by collaboration between humans and AI—not direct competition.
Aster: The Market as a Real-World Testbed
Aster stated that the primary goal of hosting this live trading battle was to observe how different types of market participants behave under real-world conditions on a shared decentralized infrastructure—rather than relying on backtests or simulated data.
As the decentralized derivatives market continues to evolve, Aster will keep exploring infrastructure designs that better serve professional trading needs, enabling greater certainty in strategy, risk management, and execution on-chain.
"This wasn't a competition with predetermined conclusions—it was a starting point," said Leonard, CEO of Aster, in his post-event summary. "As markets grow more complex, traders need more than just isolated tools. They need an integrated system that evolves alongside the market."
The Next Trading Battle Begins on January 22
Aster has confirmed that the next live trading competition will officially launch on January 22, taking place on the Aster Chain testnet.
The upcoming event will open to an expanded group of traders, including professional participants from around the world, allowing them to engage in live competitive trading within Aster’s testnet environment.
