Navigating Web3 tides with focused insightsSeptember 30 — BOB (Build on Bitcoin) announced the official launch of its first trustless, one-click native Bitcoin cross-chain bridge, connecting native Bitcoin with institutionally issued wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC) on 11 LayerZero-supported chains.
This seamless interoperability system enables users to easily access native BTC via wBTC.OFT. Meanwhile, through the BOB Gateway SDK, nearly 15,000 Dapps across major chains including Ethereum, Avalanche, Base, and BNB can now offer one-click access to the vast liquidity and user base of native Bitcoin—a capability previously unavailable on most of these 11 leading public networks.
By simplifying complex cross-chain bridging processes, BOB Gateway enables direct conversion of native BTC, allowing users easier entry into the multi-chain DeFi ecosystem built around wBTC OFT. This integration leverages BOB’s Bitcoin Intent system and LayerZero’s OFT standard to deliver secure, programmable, and composable cross-chain Bitcoin liquidity. The combination of Bitcoin Intent and universal message passing establishes a highly capital-efficient interoperability model—marking another key milestone following BOB’s recent upgrade of wBTC to the LayerZero OFT standard.
LayerZero’s wBTC.OFT standard is an omnichain protocol for wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC), enabling seamless and efficient cross-chain transfers and interoperability across different blockchains. Backed by custodians such as BitGo using a burn-mint mechanism and secured through LayerZero’s cross-chain validation protocol, the standard ensures asset liquidity and security while expanding wBTC’s reach across a broader blockchain ecosystem.
For institutional and individual users holding native BTC, BOB Gateway supports one-click conversion into wBTC.OFT across 11 chains (e.g., for DeFi deposits), or one-click return of earnings back to native BTC. Additionally, nearly 15,000 Dapps across these 11 wBTC.OFT-integrated chains can now implement one-click native BTC deposit functionality by integrating the BOB Gateway SDK. This significantly reduces DeFi operational complexity, making sophisticated position management—including loop strategies—accessible to both institutions and retail users, effectively accelerating large-scale Bitcoin adoption in DeFi.
To date, nearly $2.3 billion worth of wBTC.OFT has completed 67,000 cross-chain transfers via LayerZero. Following this upgrade, holders can now directly convert native BTC into wBTC.OFT across chains, injecting fresh liquidity into the ecosystem and expanding accessibility.
