How QRcoin, the New Star in the Base Ecosystem, Uses QR Codes to Revolutionize On-Chain Auctions?
What makes an unchanging QR code justify a higher price for advertisers?
By KarenZ, Foresight News
As attention becomes a scarce resource, a Base-chain-based attention machine centered around a QR code is capturing community interest. QRcoin, a project that promotes links for auction winners through daily auctions, is being viewed by the community as both an advertising space rental platform for small and promising projects and an alpha discovery engine.
In the meantime, the QRcoin token (QR) has surged over 13x since May and currently boasts a market cap of $4.3 million. Base’s official team has described QRcoin as a fusion of "gaming, performance art, and on-chain attention machines."
What is QRcoin?
At its core, QRcoin is a daily attention auction platform built on Base, with a Mini App now live on Farcaster. Its mechanism is simple:
Each day, an auction opens on the platform's website (bidding in USDC), where the winning bidder gains control over where the day’s QR code redirects. The QR code itself never changes—only its destination does. This means the winner can direct traffic to any URL: a personal social media profile, a tweet, a blog post, a project homepage, a token page, or even a nonprofit site—effectively using this “traffic gateway” for exposure. If outbid, the previous bidder’s funds are immediately refunded, eliminating financial risk.
QRcoin publicly announces each day’s auction winner across social platforms like X and Farcaster, directly driving traffic to the designated site. Given that the QR code remains constant while circulating across online and offline communities, the winner’s link could receive exponentially growing traffic over time. Each successful bid thus contributes to the QR code’s propagation, compounding future visibility as its reach expands.
QRcoin.fun has also introduced a "Discover-to-Earn" mechanism. Users simply visit qrcoin.fun, view the day’s winning project, then return to the page to claim a small amount of QR tokens. This incentivizes daily exploration of new on-chain projects while rewarding participation. Users can also earn additional QR rewards by sharing their claim confirmation and Ethereum address on X.
The developer behind QRcoin is @0FJAKE, an active Twitter user who previously launched the Base Colors NFT series—a 1/1 collection representing all 16,777,216 colors in the RGB spectrum.
Data Insights: Latest Winning Bid Reaches $3,500
To date, QRcoin has conducted 96 auctions. The most recent winning bid hit $3,500—setting a new record—with total cumulative auction revenue approaching $44,000. As shown in the chart below, auction activity has clearly intensified in recent weeks.

Past winners include Noice (a点赞 reward project) with five wins, Clip.fun (a Reddit-like platform that rewards posting and commenting) with three, and even ZORA’s official website. Other recipients have included X profiles and posts, Farcaster threads, and token landing pages.

QR Token
Jake, the developer of QRcoin, launched the QR token via Clanker on Farcaster on February 6. QRcoin has stated that QR has no team allocation, no insiders, and no VC involvement.
For the first 22 days after launch, the token’s market cap remained largely under $40,000. On June 10, it surged to an all-time high of approximately $6 million before pulling back to around $4.5 million. Given QR’s recent sharp rise, investors should avoid blindly chasing the price higher.
Regarding tokenomics, QRcoin uses a portion of daily auction proceeds to buy back QR tokens, tightly linking QR’s value to demand for ad space and creating a positive feedback loop between the token and the ecosystem. However, the exact number of tokens purchased daily is not yet publicly disclosed. Additionally, the aforementioned Discover-to-Earn model helps boost platform traffic and encourages users to explore winning links.
Summary
Compared to traditional advertising platforms, QRcoin.fun’s on-chain auction model is fully decentralized and transparent. Bidders can directly route traffic to their own projects or content. Moreover, users can earn tokens through simple interactions at zero cost—an accessible entry point that may attract significant new users to the ecosystem.
QRcoin’s unchanging QR code acts as a “traffic anchor,” potentially generating compounding returns over time. However, if future winners fail to receive sufficient traffic or conversion benefits, long-term bidding enthusiasm may wane. Balancing short-term exposure with long-term value creation—ultimately becoming a true bridge connecting users with high-quality projects—will be key to QRcoin’s continued evolution.
