On Monday (May 19), Sahara AI, an AI-native full-stack Web3 platform, officially launched its public testnet SIWA, opening up channels for AI creation, collaboration, and monetization for cross-chain developers.
Sahara AI stated that SIWA is the first public entry point to the Sahara Blockchain. As foundational infrastructure, its core function is to provide verifiable ownership, license management, and on-chain monetization capabilities for AI assets such as datasets and models, establishing trusted and traceable AI collaboration standards.
The SIWA testnet will roll out in four phases:

Phase One (current): Focuses on "decentralized data ownership," allowing users to register their own datasets on-chain and mint ERC-721 formatted data ownership tokens, endowing data with trackable, valuated, and revenue-shareable asset attributes.

Subsequent phases: Will gradually introduce licensing and revenue distribution mechanisms, a permissionless open-source testnet, and automated revenue-sharing pipelines.
In its roadmap released last December, Sahara AI said it plans to launch the Sahara Chain mainnet in Q3 2025, providing on-chain infrastructure to support large-scale decentralized AI.
During the private testing phase, Sahara AI has already achieved notable results. Total accounts exceeded 3.2 million, daily active accounts surpassed 1.4 million, with over 200,000 users participating in data labeling tasks, fully demonstrating market interest in Sahara AI.
What is the background of Sahara AI?
On the team side, Sean Ren, co-founder and CEO of Sahara AI, is also an associate professor at the University of Southern California, and has received honors including MIT TR35 Innovators under 35 (Asia Pacific) and Forbes Asia 30 Under 30. The other co-founder and COO, Tyler Zhou, previously served as Investment Director at Binance Labs.
On funding, Sahara AI has raised a total of $49 million, building a prestigious investment matrix combining "traditional capital + crypto-native" investors. In March 2024, Sahara AI announced a $6 million seed round led by Polychain Capital, with participation from Samsung Next and others. In August 2024, Sahara AI announced a $43 million funding round led by Binance Labs, Pantera Capital, and Polychain Capital, with participation from Samsung, Matrix Partners, Siam Commercial Bank, Foresight Ventures, dao5, Alumni Ventures, Geekcartel, Nomad Capital, and Mirana Ventures.
Interaction Strategy
Currently, the Sahara AI public testnet SIWA only supports tokenized AI models, datasets, and agents. Future updates will open AI agent construction and enable peer-to-peer marketplace trading of AI datasets, models, and agents.
1. Guide to Registering AI Assets:
1. Open https://app.saharalabs.ai/developer-platform/main/explore and connect your wallet.
2. Create a Profile, upload an avatar, and fill in birth year, gender, and country.
3. Claim 0.1 SAH from the faucet (https://faucet.saharalabs.ai/). This faucet requires at least 0.01 ETH in the connected Ethereum mainnet wallet address.
4. Click "Register AI Asset," fill in name, details, language, comments, and upload a dataset (file format must be csv, json, or txt) to mint an ERC-721 asset.
5. View your minted assets in the "My Asset" section on the left.
2. Data Service Platform (DSP) Tasks
Currently requires whitelist access, but the Open Beta version will launch on May 27, 2025. On DSP, select data labeling tasks (such as classification, image or text annotation); completing them earns Sahara points.
3. Sahara Legends Gamified Tasks (launched January 30)
1. Open https://legends.saharalabs.ai/, connect your wallet, then explore the 5 desert missions.
2. Complete daily check-ins and social media tasks in Gobi Desert to earn shards (no need to claim on Galxe).
3. Register for the Data Service Platform in Sahara Desert; other tasks require whitelist applications. At present, I cannot unlock other desert missions yet.
The reward center shows that collecting enough shards in each desert awakens its guardian, allowing you to claim a soulbound NFT on the Sahara testnet, commemorating achievements and contributions to the early development of the Sahara AI ecosystem. Once all five Desert Guardian NFTs are collected, users can forge an exclusive Bitsy Soulbound NFT on the Sahara testnet.
