U.S. Tariff Policy Threatens Nearly $2 Trillion in Global Corporate Investment Pledges
According to analysis by the Financial Times, since Trump’s first term, global companies have pledged at least $1.9 trillion in investments in the United States. However, these commitments may now be jeopardized by Trump’s renewed tariff policies. His recent announcements of sweeping tariffs targeting trade partners including China, India, and the EU have sparked concerns among global supply chain firms. French President Emmanuel Macron has called on European businesses to pause U.S. investments, while Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed "strong concern." Companies such as Apple, Hyundai, and SoftBank, which have made major investment pledges, now face significant tariff-related risks, with some already initiating cost-cutting measures like layoffs. Experts warn that the uncertainty caused by these tariff policies could make the U.S. a less attractive destination for investment.
