Newbie CZ gets schooled online for posting meme, netizens dig deep into the "dog" with serious cash at stake
CZ's dog: Things have gone this far, even the dog didn't see it coming.

At around 2 a.m. Beijing time on February 13, X platform user Vee (@theveeman) asked CZ in a tweet thread: "CZ, do you have a pet dog?"
CZ, who has been unusually active lately, replied: "Yes, not a Shiba Inu, but a Belgian Malinois."

Shortly after the message went out, about a hundred users replied in the comments: What's the dog's name? Tell us his name and show us a photo! Oh I love dogs so much—I once volunteered at an animal shelter in the U.S., just casually wondering, what’s the dog’s name? We really just want to see how cute your dog is!
Of course, all of them had plans to create a memecoin. CZ clearly understood this, so he posted another tweet:
"An honest newbie question. How does this work exactly? I share my dog’s name and photo, and then people will launch a memecoin? How do we know which one is the 'official' one? Or does it even matter? (I see many people asking for the name and photo.)"

Afterward, several KOL accounts explained the mechanism of memecoins in the comments, including how among multiple identical memes, one eventually emerges as the “official” meme through community consensus.
Following a series of Twitter interactions, CZ then tweeted:
"Now I’ve got my answer. (Memecoin is) quite an interesting mechanism. As usual, I’ll take about a day to carefully consider this big decision. Should I respect privacy, or reveal the dog’s information for the sake of this cause? Oh, maybe I’ll even interact with a few memecoins on BNB Chain."
Later, someone commented: "Just post a random dog photo with a random name—it should have the same effect." CZ replied: "No, that would be lying. If I do it, I’ll do it properly. It’s just about sharing a photo and the dog’s name."
The full story ends here. However, attentive netizens didn’t let this go—they scoured ancient sources and unearthed various clues about CZ’s dog. There were conflicting claims: some said Perry, others Bean, Maverick, Cleo, and various other names. Naturally, numerous memecoins quickly emerged.

Some even dug up a 2020 post from Binance’s official account that listed several pets belonging to Binance employees at the time—people speculated one might belong to CZ:

Others posted a photo of a dog wearing Binance-branded clothes, pretending (or perhaps not pretending) it was CZ’s dog:

Foreign KOLs also used translation tools on old Chinese articles trying to prove CZ owns another dog—a Springer Spaniel named Sadie:

Someone even offered a $100,000–200,000 bounty to anyone close to CZ who could reveal the dog’s name. One can only say the world has gone completely crazy:

Others asked if anyone knew CZ’s former cellmate, suggesting they must have talked a lot during their four months together and might know the dog’s name.

Currently, if CZ actually launches a meme, it will most likely be issued on BNB Chain. It remains unclear whether any of the rumored names will be used. Memecoin enthusiasts are already gearing up with BNB ready on-chain. Alternatively, given the current environment, CZ may choose not to launch such a meme. Either way, the answer will be revealed tomorrow.
