On September 19, Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, unveiled its second crypto smartphone, the "Seeker," at TOKEN2049 in Singapore. Previously known as "Chapter 2," the device has drawn significant attention since its announcement in January, with over 140,000 pre-orders already recorded ahead of its official launch.
Unlike previous models, the Seeker features a mobile-first Seed Vault wallet and integrates the new version of the Solana dApp Store. This article by PANews offers a quick overview of this long-anticipated Web3 phone.
New dApp Store Integration; Expected Mid-2025 Release
According to the team, the name "Seeker" was inspired by users' desire to “seek out new opportunities”—whether in rewards, experiences, or connections.
Solana describes the Seeker as a major hardware upgrade from Saga, the first-generation crypto phone by Solana Mobile, featuring improved battery life, enhanced camera performance, and a lighter, more compact design. Priced at $450, this rate will remain until the end of Breakpoint on September 21. The Seeker is expected to ship in mid-2025.
To date, key features announced for the Solana Seeker include the Seed Vault wallet—a mobile-focused crypto wallet natively integrated with the device’s built-in self-custody Seed Vault, offering fast transactions and streamlined account management. This wallet was developed by Solflare specifically for the Seeker.
Both Saga and Seeker run on the Android operating system. The Seeker also integrates Solana dApp Store 2.0, which includes a new reward tracker and improved app discovery capabilities, covering applications across payments, DeFi, DePIN, NFTs, AI, and gaming.
Like Saga buyers, those who purchase the Seeker will receive a Seeker Genesis Token—an exclusive bound NFT that unlocks rewards, special access, discounts, and content across the broader Solana ecosystem.
In addition, the Seeker significantly improves upon Saga’s hardware with a lighter build, brighter display, better cameras, and longer battery life.
The Seeker also marks a substantial price reduction. When originally launched, the Saga was priced at $1,000 before being lowered to $599. In contrast, the Seeker is available for pre-order at $450—less than half the original Saga price.
Emmett Hollyer, General Manager of Solana Mobile, emphasized that the lower price shouldn't be interpreted as a devaluation. He stated that Solana Mobile has ambitious goals for growth with this pricing strategy, adding, “We don’t see this as a price cut.”

First-Gen Saga's Comeback Boosts Confidence for Solana Labs
As the successor to the Solana Saga, the Seeker reflects Solana’s renewed commitment to its smartphone product line—a venture that previously faced serious setbacks. The first-generation Saga struggled with weak sales upon release last year, but later experienced a revival when crypto users realized that owning the device qualified them for token airdrops worth more than the phone itself.
In April last year, multiple meme coin projects distributed airdrops to users of the Solana Chapter 2 phone, requiring only the submission of the Solana wallet address used during pre-registration. Two cat-themed tokens stood out: 37,600 Cat in a Dogs World (MEW) tokens airdropped on April 1, and 5,199 Maneki (MANEKI) tokens on April 24. For buyers who held these tokens, the combined peak value of these airdrops reached approximately $504 around April—exceeding the $450 device cost and allowing users to recoup their investment quickly.
Eight months later, Saga saw an over tenfold surge in sales between December 14 and 15, largely driven by the BONK airdrop—the dog-themed token on Solana. Saga owners could mint a Genesis token via the phone and claim 30 million BONK tokens. Initially valued at about $10, the BONK airdrop peaked near $700 in value. With multiple meme coin airdrops collectively surpassing the phone’s retail price, demand for the Saga surged, leading to temporary shortages. This unexpected turnaround restored confidence at Solana Labs, motivating them to further integrate blockchain technology into mobile devices through dedicated hardware and software development.
With this successful precedent, expectations are high for the new Seeker model. By early 2024, Solana had already received over 100,000 pre-orders. At TOKEN2049, Solana Mobile stated that based on these pre-orders and customer trust, they have secured more favorable supply chain agreements compared to the first generation.
Compared to the roughly 20,000 Saga units produced globally, Seeker pre-orders have already reached seven times that volume—even before full hardware specifications were released. But can the Seeker replicate Saga’s “legendary” comeback? Only time will tell.
