U.S. presidential candidate: Have purchased 21 bitcoins since launching campaign
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said, "I bought three bitcoins for each of my children."
Interview and compilation: Wendy, Foresight News
U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. attended the Consensus conference in Austin on May 30 local time, where he answered questions from a Foresight News reporter during the media Q&A session prior to his public speech.
According to Kennedy, since announcing his candidacy, he has purchased 21 bitcoins—three for each of his three children—and funded these purchases with legal fees earned from the Monsanto litigation as a lawyer.
If elected U.S. president, he will ensure that the United States maintains its central position in blockchain technology and put an end to the hostility toward cryptocurrencies from relevant U.S. regulators and the financial system.
Foresight News: What are the biggest issues facing the U.S. regarding cryptocurrency, especially in terms of regulation? How do you plan to address these issues?
Kennedy: I think the biggest issue is transactional freedom. We need sovereignty over our wallets and freedom to transact. We need a transparent, decentralized currency as a bulwark against authoritarianism. We saw what they did (referring to governments with authoritarian tendencies) during the Canadian trucker protests. We saw what PayPal did during the pandemic (referring to the controversial account closures and fund seizures).
We need to embrace blockchain. We must ensure that the United States remains at the center of blockchain technology. The Biden administration’s hostility toward Bitcoin is driving this technology overseas. In recent years, Switzerland has registered around 1,200 Bitcoin companies, collectively valued at $360 billion. All these innovators and entrepreneurs want to come to America, but we’re pushing them to Switzerland, to Singapore.
I will end the hostility from the banking system, the Federal Reserve, regulatory agencies, the FDIC, and the SEC. I will end their hostility toward cryptocurrencies.
I will ensure that cryptocurrencies are regulated to protect consumers from malicious schemes and Ponzi scams. At the same time, truly decentralized currencies should be encouraged, and capital flows should be directed toward these currencies.
If I become president, that’s exactly what I’ll do.
Foresight News: Can you share details about your personal holdings in crypto assets? For example, any cryptocurrencies or NFTs?
Kennedy: Since launching my campaign, I’ve bought 21 bitcoins. I used the legal fees I earned from the Monsanto case to make these purchases. I was part of the legal team that sued Monsanto, which ultimately resulted in a settlement of approximately $13 billion. I received some attorney fees from that case, and I’ve invested that money into cryptocurrency.
I bought three bitcoins for each of my children.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., scion of America’s prominent political Kennedy family, announced his independent presidential run last year after failing to secure the Democratic Party nomination, positioning himself against both incumbent President Biden and former President Trump. His vice-presidential running mate is Nicole Shanahan, the former wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Throughout this campaign, Kennedy has clearly expressed his support for cryptocurrencies. A Foresight News reporter on-site will bring further details from Kennedy’s press briefing on cryptocurrency-related questions and answers.
