Replaying Silly the Dragon's 10,000x Journey: How a Meme Became Solana's Spirit Animal?
Silly万倍 gave Solana its legitimate meme culture and spiritual totem.
Authors: Jaleel, Luccy, BlockBeats
This meme dragon has now almost become the universally recognized spiritual totem within the Solana community.
Yesterday, SILLY, a meme token on Solana, surged past $0.15, setting a new all-time high. Currently, the top ten holders of SILLY (excluding CEX addresses) collectively own 18.5% of the total supply. Among these addresses, the highest unrealized profit reached 27,000x, while the lowest was 0.7x. The average unrealized return stands at 30x, with most investors having bought in extremely early and held until now.
In its early days, what were the origins of the meme dragon? Who was spreading the "silly dragon"? And what did it do right on its path to becoming Solana’s official meme? BlockBeats will explore each of these questions below.
The Origins of the Meme Dragon
The story of Silly Dragon can be traced back to September 6.
On that day, Anatoly, co-founder of Solana, posted a mysterious message on social media—just three green dragon emojis accompanied by two words: “Silly dragons.” And just like that, “Silly dragons” quietly emerged within the Solana community, becoming an inside joke and symbolic self-identifier.

However, despite its charm, the silly dragon didn’t immediately ignite widespread attention. Like the ancient proverb says—“the hidden dragon remains inactive”—it lay dormant, nearly forgotten.
It wasn’t until Solana’s annual flagship event—the Solana Breakpoint conference—that this story was reborn. Solana’s founder transformed himself into this legendary silly dragon, injecting fresh energy and meaning into the character, turning it into a highly viral meme that electrified the entire community.
A Hidden Easter Egg at Solana's Annual Summit
Solana Breakpoint is an annual gathering organized by the Solana Foundation, celebrating achievements across the Solana ecosystem and exploring inspiration for future developments.
From October 30 to November 3, the third Solana Breakpoint took place in Amsterdam, bringing together 3,000 Solana developers, validators, founders, core engineers, and ecosystem teams to discuss recent progress and future roadmaps. The conference focused on substantive technical advancements and critical topics shaping the next generation of blockchain networks.
Projects such as SIMD (Solana Improvement Documents), Helium, and Helius stood out during the summit. Notably, Helium leveraged the DePIN narrative, driving its token MOBILE to a 110% intraday surge on December 14, leading gains among DePIN-related tokens. Beyond project showcases, the appearance of Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko sparked intense discussion.
On the opening day of the summit—coinciding with Halloween—Anatoly made his entrance dressed in a full green dinosaur costume, instantly becoming the most unique and eye-catching figure at the event.
Standing before the crowd, Anatoly introduced himself: “I’m Anatoly, and I’m a silly dragon.” After saying this, he shyly smiled, prompting laughter throughout the audience.

The motto of the Solana community is “do hard things first,” and Anatoly’s outfit and statement were not just self-deprecating humor—they reflected a deeper philosophy. He explained: “Me standing here in a dragon suit is crucial to our discussion about what we’re building and why. We need to understand our goals and what we truly aim to achieve.”

After the summit, the Silly Dragon image began appearing across the Solana community. On November 8, Anatoly posted on social media: “year of the silly dragon,” injecting fresh and playful energy into Solana’s narrative. As 2024 approached, this phrase also aligned perfectly with the upcoming Chinese Year of the Dragon, making the storyline more relatable and appealing to domestic audiences. Excitement grew around the potential narratives and innovations surrounding this foolish dragon.

Following this, Anatoly followed the official SILLY Twitter account and publicly called for a “silly dragon meme,” an act that sent the value of the SILLY token soaring and became a celebrated moment. In hindsight, Anatoly’s decision to appear in a silly dragon costume at the summit was not only a humorous form of self-expression but also a cleverly planted easter egg.
Who Is Spreading the Silly Dragon?
On November 9, Solana builder Matty Taylor, following in Anatoly’s footsteps, shared a thought-provoking post on social media: “Don’t take yourself too seriously—we all have a silly dragon inside us.” A researcher who once wrote a thesis on Bitcoin economics during his undergraduate years and remains deeply fascinated by cryptocurrency, Matty now focuses on growing and scaling Solana. His words resonated strongly within the community.
Meanwhile, Legend (@SolanaLegend), a Solana NFT expert and managing partner at Frictionless Capital, fell in love with Solana at first sight. Though initially fond of Ethereum’s ecosystem, he became disillusioned upon encountering exorbitant gas fees. Fortunately, a friend involved in Solana’s seed investment introduced him to Solana’s performance metrics, which instantly captivated him.
On November 16, Legend posted a concise tweet: “It’s silly dragon season.” Underneath it, community members expressed hope for a “Silly dragon token.”

Then on November 18, LacedUp (@HODLonBRO), ambassador for Solana wallet Solflare, chimed in: “Glad to be working on Solana.” In the replies, the phrase “What a silly dragon” became a common meme expression within the Solana community—a way to praise or humorously tease developers for their passionate, seemingly “foolish” dedication to building on Solana.

Solana community members reshared the first dragon meme—an illustration by Drako—with the caption: “While I was still dreaming about the possibility of dragons existing, a silly dragon came along and swept me off my feet. Let’s rewrite the epic of Solana memes together.”

On December 8, Yaoyao (@ynonestop), responsible for Solana growth, combined “silly” and “Solana” into “Soylano,” posting: “2024 is the Chinese Year of the Dragon—this will be the crypto year of the silly dragon (Soylano).”

Notably, dragon-themed storytelling isn’t unique to Solana. As early as March this year, the Bitcoin ecosystem saw the emergence of the LONG inscription representing small Western dragons, followed in April by DRAG and DADA inscriptions symbolizing Eastern dragons. At the time, the community jokingly referred to it as “an East vs. West dragon showdown,” showcasing modern interpretations of ancient myths within crypto culture.
Within the Solana community, the rise and spread of the Silly Dragon meme came at the perfect time. With the Year of the Dragon approaching, the image not only fueled celebrations but also brought unprecedented attention and liquidity to Solana. In the digital currency market, a founder-associated meme often sparks excitement—and even triggers short-term FOMO effects.
For example, a meme coin themed around Vitalik Buterin’s cat Hemule once topped DexScreen’s trading热度 chart. Avalanche co-founder Kevin Sekniqi’s dog Bear also became a popular meme. Even the Metis ecosystem launched VMUM, a meme coin named after “Vitalik’s mother,” with her cat Barsik joining the meme trend.
Clearly, the Solana community drew inspiration from these phenomena. Leveraging Anatoly’s Halloween persona and the “silly dragon” avatar, the community skillfully blended ancient dragon lore with the modern digital world, crafting a distinctive and captivating narrative. This is not only a contemporary reinterpretation of ancient legends but also an intriguing exploration of how digital worlds can merge with traditional culture.
The Solana community needed a meme that could represent its spirit and culture—and the birth of the silly dragon fit perfectly. With support from the community and developer base, everything aligned seamlessly—perfect timing, ideal conditions, and strong momentum.
How SILLY Became Solana’s Official Meme
Twenty days after the summit, a social media account named Drako (@DrakoSolana) entered public view. Its profile picture and posts featured a classic silly dragon meme. From creation date to early engagement levels, @DrakoSolana significantly outperformed the previously known Silly Dragon accounts.
However, one unfortunate fact remained: despite Drako’s growing influence, no token had been launched. This gap left room for today’s $SILLY, which stepped in to fill the void—becoming the new cryptocurrency choice for community members seeking connection with the silly dragon.

The Birth of a Flagship Meme Coin
With the creation of this social account featuring a green animated dragon head, the first post declared: “Year of the Silly Dragon.” The flagship meme coin $SILLY was born.

This green dragon closely matched the image Anatoly referenced in his early November tweet, echoing both color and design of his Halloween costume. However, initially, the tweets lacked hashtags for discoverability, and retweets and comments were minimal—resulting in little attention.
On December 4, the SILLY token contract was successfully deployed, adding a new chapter to the silly dragon saga. Shortly afterward, Silly Dragon actively announced updates across social media: website launch, Telegram group, vision statement, and listings on Solana-based exchanges Raydium and Jupiter. The project’s vision was described as a fusion of art, passion, and the power of Solana—an entirely new narrative transcending digital boundaries.
Under the SILLY narrative, it’s not merely a token—it aims to build a legacy of unity and artistic expression, powered by the revolutionary force of blockchain technology. Every holder and enthusiast becomes a vital part of this journey, contributing to a story beyond digits. In the realm of the silly dragon, art and emotion blend with innovation, heralding an era where a community collectively writes history.
From then on, the account was widely recognized by the community as the official Silly Dragon Twitter. That same day, the official Silly Dragon account tweeted: “Leave your wallet,” sparking an explosive increase in likes, comments, and shares. The silly dragon finally entered the mainstream spotlight.
Riding the Wave of Solana’s Meme Season
Naturally, the silly dragon didn’t miss this massive wave of traffic. It promptly launched a Silly Dragon Art Contest: users created and posted artwork based on the silly dragon, with the top five entries by likes and shares winning 10 million SILLY tokens each. The contest attracted numerous crypto enthusiasts, including Bitget ambassadors @Cryptozone04, @heyjerey_, and @CRYPTOKRALI3.
On December 8, the Silly Dragon Chinese community was established, featuring a silly dragon wearing a red Tang suit and holding the Chinese flag. Then on December 12, the team hosted a Silly Dragon Video Contest, awarding 1 million SILLY tokens each to the top three TikTok creators who best told the Silly Dragon story (including all latest updates).
On that very day, Anatoly followed the account—yet this still didn’t trigger massive attention. According to Birdeye data, SILLY’s price and trading volume saw only a slight uptick.

It wasn’t until December 16, when Anatoly posted: “Need silly dragon memes urgently,” that community enthusiasm exploded and SILLY’s price surged. From that point on, the silly dragon solidified its status as Solana’s de facto official meme.

At the same time, another major event unfolded in the Solana community.
Solana’s Saga Web3 phone included 30 million BONK tokens per unit. Given BONK’s sharp rise, the赠value exceeded the phone’s retail price. According to information obtained by BlockBeats, Saga phones are now selling at a 500% premium in secondary markets, reaching as high as $3,000.
This unique marketing strategy boosted Saga sales and ignited Solana’s meme season. Tokens like ZERO, COQ, !knoB, and WIF became hot speculative assets.
One trader reportedly earned $1.47 million in just five days trading the meme token WIF. Meanwhile, Solana DEX trading volume surpassed $5 billion, setting a new record and briefly overtaking Ethereum within a 24-hour window.
Riding the momentum of Solana’s meme boom, the official Silly Dragon account hinted at an upcoming airdrop, further fueling community FOMO. The accompanying video featured a chibi version of Anatoly in his silly dragon cosplay, which Anatoly himself later retweeted.

Since then, SILLY experienced an impressive surge in market cap and trading volume over two days. Trading volume on decentralized exchanges like Jupiter hit $30 million, with market cap climbing from zero to nearly $10 million—a staggering 900% increase.
Additionally, SILLY actively partnered with CEXs. On December 21, Bitget announced it would list Silly Dragon (SILLY) in its Innovation and MemE zones. LBank followed on the 25th, announcing the debut of SILLY perpetual contracts denominated in USDT.
Overall, since launch, SILLY’s price has shown an upward trend. Although on the 22nd, Anatoly changed his profile picture, causing SILLY to drop over 45% intraday, the narrative behind SILLY did not collapse. On December 27, according to Bitget market data, SILLY rose above $0.15, setting another new all-time high and ranking among the top gainers. According to on-chain analyst Ejin, among current SILLY holders, the highest unrealized profit reached 27,000x, the lowest 0.7x, with an average of 30x—most having bought in very early and held until now.
In internet culture, nothing is more central than memes—because the market itself essentially runs on memes, driven by whichever narrative captures attention on any given day, week, or year. The success of the silly dragon meme relies not only on Solana’s promotion of silly dragon culture but also on the community’s trust in Solana, helping drive Solana to achieve a historic milestone: surpassing Ethereum in weekly DEX trading volume for the first time.
As Solana Foundation member BEN SPARANG put it: “One small step for mankind, one giant leap for the silly dragon.” This is not only recognition of Solana’s technological achievements but also signifies that Solana has now gained an authentic meme culture and spiritual totem—one that will play a powerful role in uniting the community.
