From Ethereum to Rollups, Which Public Blockchains Are Users' True Favorites?
Public chains are as numerous as cow hairs, but users are few and far between?
Compiled by: CryptoForest, Web3 Map
This article analyzes the actual usage of major public blockchains and Rollups based on recent survey data. While Ethereum remains dominant, its high transaction fees limit accessibility. Meanwhile, other blockchains like Cardano and Polygon have active communities but relatively low real-world adoption. Notably, Rollups—layer-2 scaling solutions—are gaining increasing user attention. The survey highlights diversity and disparities in user preferences across blockchains and layer-2 networks.
From Ethereum to Rollups: Which Blockchains Are Users' True Favorites?
A few days ago, I conducted a survey on blockchain user activity—the results were surprising:
-
17% of respondents had never used the Ethereum mainnet
-
34% had never made a Bitcoin transaction

"Never used" percentage ranking
Here are seven other key insights from the survey:
The Power of the Cardano Community
First, the Cardano community is highly active.
This survey attracted more participants from the Cardano community than any other blockchain.
There were 6.3K Cardano-related responses, compared to around 2.7K for other blockchains.
However, 64% of respondents had never used Cardano.

Litecoin's Real Engagement Level
Second, you're not really using Litecoin.
Only 28 people reported using Litecoin in the past 7 days, while over 97.8% either never used it or last used it more than a month ago.
This is surprising because Litecoin ranks fifth in daily active users according to DeFiLlama.

Is Litecoin still relevant?
Polygon Community Vitality
The Polygon community is also strong.
Votes for Polygon PoS and zkEVM exceeded those for other chains by up to 50%.

Polygon and Polygon zkEVM usage
This suggests that despite $ZKS airdrop expectations, Polygon zkEVM remains more active than zkSync Era.

Blockchains with Most Recent Users
#BNB > #Solana > #Avalanche
In the past 7 days, BNB Chain had more users than Solana and Avalanche.
40% of voters had never used BNB Chain, versus 56% for Solana and 63% for Avalanche.
BNB Chain ranks fourth in usage after Ethereum, Polygon PoS, and BTC.

Rollup Technology Adoption
Respondents showed strong preference for Optimistic Rollups, second only to Ethereum L1.
Over the past 7 days, a quarter of respondents used Arbitrum, followed by Base and Optimism.

Ethereum’s Dominance
Ethereum remains the leader.
Despite market calmness, 37% of respondents conducted at least one transaction on Ethereum mainnet in the past 7 days.
Yet, 17% had never used it—likely due to high gas fees and cheaper alternatives.

Tron's Special Case
Tron was actually the reason I wanted to run this poll.
According to Defillama data, Tron has the highest number of daily active users among all chains, yet over 70% of voters had never used it.

Tron user usage
As commenters noted, Tron is often used for CEX transfers and as a payment method in developing countries with weak banking systems.
Note: Users may not be present on Crypto Twitter, which could introduce bias into the results.
Survey Limitations
Overall, this survey does not meet basic scientific research standards.
It only represents a small segment of users interested in DeFi on Crypto Twitter.
More importantly, the particularly active Cardano and Polygon communities may have skewed results, leading to underrepresentation of other ecosystems.
