MaoDao: Connecting culture, entertainment, and sports, everything centered around the user
Cat Island will serve as the spiritual nourishment and source of entertainment experiences for Cat Avenue, while Cat Avenue will provide Cat Island with a Web3 community, tools, and IP.
Authors: KK, Chef MaoDao

MaoDao is the first project incubated by Hash Global, currently consisting of two parts: Cat Path and Cat Island.
Cat Path is positioned as a global Web3 Chinese community. We aim to build Cat Path into a spiritual home for Chinese Web3 users. We plan to interview every cat owner—discussing entrepreneurship, life, interests, and aspirations—and produce a documentary series about Web3 Chinese individuals. Throughout this journey, MaoDao itself will evolve into a native Web3 IP. We will distribute diverse cultural rights and benefits to cat owners and fans. Currently, there are 5,000 metaverse cats—Ready Player Cats—and all Ready Player Cats can freely explore the entertainment and cultural ocean of Cat Path.
Cat Island is our product—a Web3 fan club platform. We envision Cat Island becoming the preferred private traffic management platform for influencers (KOLs) in the entertainment, culture, and sports sectors. Public traffic remains dominated by established Web2 platforms, which naturally have their advantages. We will provide various Web3 and AIGC tools to help KOLs better understand their fans and engage with them more effectively, as well as simplify content ownership verification to better realize their value.
Cat Island will serve as the source of spiritual nourishment and cultural-entertainment experiences for Cat Path; in return, Cat Path will provide Cat Island with a Web3 community, tools, and IP support. The two are independent yet unified.
We believe that for a Web3 product to achieve mass adoption in China, three conditions must be met: users should be unaware they're using Web3, they should not need to interact with cryptocurrencies, and a single unified ID should work across the entire network. Overseas, this might be achieved via semi-centralized Layer 3 solutions or application-specific chains; in China, it should be built on compliant consortium blockchains. We aim to validate Web3 business models on consortium chains, allowing users to discover how excellent the user experience of Web3 applications can be—only then can the story truly unfold. We want to use Web3 products to deliver better experiences and rights to users, returning data and assets to creators and consumers. This is not merely an upgrade in product experience—it's fundamentally an internet data revolution. Once data is open, anything becomes possible.
Facebook, the iconic product of Web2, perfectly connected people with one another. Cat Island, as a Web3 product, will help people connect with their cultural footprints—past, present, and future. We believe Cat Island will offer fans who love entertainment, culture, and sports an unprecedented experience. We can help them record, preserve, and own their cultural footprints as credentials, achievements, collections, and assets within the cultural "metaverse." These "footprints" will be stored on-chain as NFTs—in public databases rather than locked inside proprietary databases of internet platforms, invisible, intangible, and untransferable.
We do not monopolize data, and thus do not monopolize users. Truly putting users first, we won't measure success by DAU or MAU—we care about the total data value generated on the platform. This total data value emerges entirely from our services, user needs, and satisfaction. Our role as a platform is minimal—we are merely tool providers, fundamentally different from Web2 platforms in both positioning and business model. We must continuously earn user trust to realize our own value and maintain our competitive advantage. We believe Web3's data democratization will bring fundamental changes to internet business models and the data economy.
Through serving users, we hope to validate the power of Web3 technology. We also believe that by building products ourselves, we—as an investment firm—can deepen our understanding of what it takes to create a successful Web3 product. We hope Cat Island, a product aiming for Web3 mass adoption, can help identify practical use cases and opportunities for the many Web3 technical teams in our portfolio.
In the past month, we've onboarded dozens of cat friends. We will continue inviting entrepreneurs, KOLs, active community contributors from the Chinese Web3 space, as well as representative figures and fans from Web2 entertainment and culture industries to join. We’ve preliminarily completed a redesign of the Cat Path website, and the first set of member perks will launch soon. The "Cat Dao" and "Cat Talk" forums are under construction. The first offline cultural perk in Shanghai will soon be distributed to our cat friends. We’ve also completed initial development of the domestic Cat Island website—stay tuned.
Our product is still in early development and will inevitably face many issues and challenges. We hope to receive support from Web3 technical teams worldwide to co-build a Web3 product that far surpasses Web2 user experiences. In the past month alone, we’ve already received support from six technical teams: Smart Token Labs, Creator DAO, Mysc, Unique Art, Metaforo, and Footprint, along with numerous community members offering valuable suggestions. We sincerely thank all these teams and cat friends! As our product continues to develop and iterate, we’ll need ongoing support from technical teams and the community. If you feel you can contribute, please reach out!
