Project Overview
Heroic Story is building an online TRPG platform based on Web3 technology. They have recently launched their first major campaign setting—Fortunata. Set in a primal kingdom of swords and magic, the story was co-created by M Harold Page (a Scottish fencer and novelist), project co-founders Jay and Scott, along with two screenwriters from Marvel’s "The Eternals".
Amidst the four great empires of Fortunata, a battle for legacy unfolds as each vies for control over ancient treasures and powerful artifacts hidden within a volcanic crater. Players are born into this world, embarking on adventures from their homelands—making friends, leveling up, crafting, gathering supplies, trading items, organizing expeditions, and exploring the unknown and dangerous lands around them, ultimately reaping rich rewards.
The game sessions take place on Discord, where a global community of writers and artists collaboratively expand the world. Players must purchase a World Pass NFT to join this fantastical journey and enjoy high-quality Game Masters (GMs) and a dedicated team experience.

Funding and Team Background
In 2019, the two founders launched the project at YC accelerator and began developing their first world-building narrative. Besides bringing on board two Marvel screenwriters, they secured early investments from individuals and organizations including Twitch’s co-founder and Transcend Fund.
Recently, they raised $6 million in a funding round led by Upfront Ventures, with participation from Multicoin Capital and Polygon. Other investors in this round include a16z Game Fund, Team Liquid CEO, and Orange DAO.
Project Evaluation
Compared to typical blockchain games, Heroic Story feels more like an online TRPG platform using NFTs as access passes. For those interested in crypto and passionate about tabletop gaming, Heroic Story presents a highly attractive TRPG experience. The team's background and resources are also impressive.
TRPGs, as a traditional genre, have already established a mature business model overseas centered around communities and showcased through streaming platforms. It remains to be seen whether the integration of blockchain technology can bring additional traffic and revenue to such communities and teams. Meanwhile, since Heroic Story isn't a conventional Play-to-Earn (P2E) game, it’s equally exciting to observe whether its development will help more people recognize the broader application potential of NFTs.
