Uniswap governance voting has just passed 40 million "yes" votes, with Uniswap V3 expected to be deployed on zkSync within 4–6 weeks.
Interestingly, the deployment itself will not be carried out by the Uniswap team. Instead, Matter Labs (the team behind zkSync) has requested an additional license exemption, allowing them to use the license to deploy Uniswap on zkSync.
According to the proposal, deploying Uniswap early will “solidify Uniswap’s position as the leading DEX and thought leader.” Deployment on zkSync would help Uniswap gain a first-mover advantage.
More importantly, Uniswap DAO governance will remain on Ethereum L1. zkSync will use the L1<>L2 messaging bridge to support any governance-related message passing.
Matter Labs’ proposal comes at a well-timed moment. The EVM-compatible ZK-Rollup version of zkSync is set to launch its mainnet in 16 days, while Uniswap V3 deployment will take 4–6 weeks due to the team needing sufficient time for testing and marketing.
With the upcoming mainnet launch and Uniswap V3 deployment, zkSync has recently gained increasing attention, with over 100 dApps building on it, including Curve, Argent, Yearn, 1inch, and more.
Vitalik Buterin has stated that ZK Rollups are the ultimate solution for scaling Ethereum to accelerate retail adoption. During ETH Seoul, he predicted ZK-Rollups will win the Layer 2 scaling war against Optimistic Rollups.
Now, the race for leadership among ZK-Rollups is heating up.
In addition to Starknet, Loopring, and Aztec, Polygon has also launched its zkEVM public testnet.
Therefore, zkSync's decision to deploy Uniswap V3 appears to be a timely strategic move.
