Hangzhou Web3 Developers Conference Concludes Successfully
The Hangzhou Web3 Developer Conference concluded successfully on September 2, 2022, at Dingchuang Fortune Center.
On September 2, 2022, the Hangzhou Web3 Developer Conference successfully concluded at Dingchuang Fortune Center. The event saw over 600 online registrations, with more than 150 attendees physically present and over a thousand viewers tuning in via live stream.
Hosted by ComingChat and co-organized by MyNFT, Bitmain (Babbitt), BuidlerDAO, Metaverse Heart, WeStar, OmniBTC, MoveDAO, THUBA DAO, among others, the conference brought together leading voices in the global Web3 space.
On the day of the event, dozens of top-tier Web3 developers from around the world delivered presentations either in person or remotely. Hundreds of attendees from across China filled the venue to capacity, with some standing at the back due to lack of seating, demonstrating strong enthusiasm. Representatives from academia, investment firms, NFTs, GameFi, DAOs, and other sectors also participated as guests or audience members.

Unlike previous Web3 conferences, this event was designed from the outset as a technical exchange for developers, focusing on hot topics such as the Move programming language and its ecosystem, omnichain technologies, and related themes through keynote speeches and panel discussions—an authentic Web3 technology feast. Attendees expressed gratitude to the organizers, noting that "past Web3 events were investor-focused, emphasizing markets and trends without depth. This Hangzhou Web3 Developer Conference took a technical approach, deeply exploring the industry and offering rare insights and practical knowledge. We hope the organizers can host more events like this in the future."
The Hangzhou Web3 Developer Conference invited leading projects from the Move blockchain ecosystem and pioneers in the omnichain space to share their insights.
Featured speakers included Sam Blackshear, CTO of Sui—one of the twin stars of the Move public chain—and the creator of the Move language; Emma Zhong, software engineer at Sui; LayerZero, a pioneer of the omnichain era; Axelar, another leading cross-chain interoperability protocol; and Starcoin, an early mover in the Move blockchain space.
Additionally, Guo Guanghua, CEO of ChainX, ComingChat, and OmniBTC, along with Zhao Jianbing, a top Move language developer and chief blockchain engineer, attended as special guests.
The conference opened with a keynote speech by Sam Blackshear, CTO of Sui and father of the Move language.
Sam’s talk centered on three core questions: why cryptography needs a secure asset-oriented language (Move); how Sui Move integrates the core Move language with a novel object-centric data model; and how the Sui blockchain leverages this object-centric model for scalability.
Sam explained these key concepts in an accessible way, providing guidance and clarity for Move developers and Sui ecosystem builders.

Next, Isaac, Lead Chinese Developer at LayerZero, gave a detailed introduction to LayerZero’s technical implementation, decentralized architecture, and security features. Specifically, he explained how messages are verified using oracles and relayers, and how three critical properties are ensured:
- First, the message will arrive;
- Second, the message received is accurate;
- Third, messages arrive in order.
Isaac also shared insights into LayerZero’s current applications, future prospects, and potential integration use cases with Move-based ecosystems such as Aptos and Sui.

Sammy, core developer at Axelar, first explained how Axelar enables cross-chain asset transfers, then discussed how users can invoke cross-chain smart contracts by executing just one contract on the destination chain via Axelar's gateway contract. He also outlined Axelar’s current development status and roadmap.

Guo Guanghua, CEO of ChainX, ComingChat, and OmniBTC, delivered a high-level overview of the product philosophy and development roadmap from ChainX to ComingChat and onto OmniBTC. At the conference, he officially announced the launch of MoveChina, the Chinese-speaking Move community, along with an incentive program: high-quality content creators will receive soulbound NFTs issued by MoveChina on the Aptos/Sui networks, granting special privileges such as eligibility for select airdrops on Aptos/Sui.

During the morning panel discussion, Emma Zhong, software engineer at Sui; Zhao Jianbing, chief blockchain engineer at ChainX, ComingChat, and OmniBTC; Henry Liu, tech lead at TinTinLand; and Bai Chuan, technical director of Move ecosystem at Westar Labs, discussed the theme “Collision and Convergence between the EVM and Move Ecosystems.” Professor Bai expressed optimism about the Move ecosystem’s growth but noted that surpassing the EVM ecosystem would require time to prove. Each guest offered unique and insightful perspectives, resulting in a vibrant and thought-provoking dialogue.

In the afternoon of September 2, Li Ke, CTO of Lianwang Tech, presented from a technical perspective the R&D background, overall architecture, and application layer of ComingChat, while answering technical questions from the audience.
Cris, Chief Product Manager of ChainX, ComingChat, and OmniBTC, provided a detailed explanation of OmniBTC’s core business, implementation path, and development plans.
The anonymous developer team behind THORswap joined the conference via video call, introducing THORswap’s core business logic and its strategy for entering the Move ecosystem.
Professor Cao Jiafeng from Starcoin analyzed the technical rationale behind choosing the Move programming language for Starcoin, a PoW blockchain based on an account model. He shared insights into Starcoin’s project initiation, challenges faced, ecosystem building, and ongoing exploration of Layer2 solutions.
Xu Jingzhong, co-founder of Bool Network, explained in detail how Layerbase leverages MPC, ZKP, and TEE technologies to provide distributed private key management, Oracle services, and heterogeneous cross-chain bridge solutions.
The afternoon panel adopted a more open and inclusive format, with participants rearranging seats into a circle to facilitate candid discussions on the current state, future prospects, and challenges facing Web3 development in China.

The above summarizes the 2022 Hangzhou Web3 Developer Conference. The development of any industry does not happen overnight—it relies on the silent dedication of countless professionals behind the scenes. As Mr. Guo Guanghua said, the road ahead is long and arduous, but we persist despite repeated setbacks, because we believe even crops can grow in saline-alkali soil.
