Layer2 Ecosystem Overview: Which Interesting DeFi & Web3 Protocols Are Worth Watching?
Some interesting DeFi and Web3 protocols discovered during research on L2.

While researching L2s, I explored several protocols within the L2 ecosystem. Below are some interesting DeFi and Web3 protocols I discovered.
1/ Forta
A DeFi protocol that detects anomalies/threats by monitoring DeFi, NFTs, governance, cross-chain bridges, and Web3 in real time. It consists of two components:
• Detection bots
• Scan nodes
Forta operates via independent node operators who scan every block for transactions to detect threats. When a threat is detected, node operators send risk alerts to subscribers so they can take action.
It can be integrated into NFTs, dApps, and cross-chain bridges. Given that cross-chain bridges have become ATMs for hackers, I recommend integrating Forta into bridge protocols. Currently, Forta runs on both L1 and L2 (Arbitrum and Optimism).

2/ Coinfeeds
A Web2/Web3 tool for tracking cryptocurrency news and market sentiment. Its products include:
- Projects
- NFTs
- Investors
- Trends

3/ Mean Finance
A dollar-cost averaging (DCA) protocol allowing users or dApps to automatically invest in any ERC20 token over a desired period to average their positions. In other words, it automates your DCA investments.
Benefits of Mean Finance (for users):
- Reduces exposure of positions to market volatility
- MEV-protected trades
- Gas-efficient DCA without repeated transactions
For market makers:
- Earn a portion of fees
- Can use the entire protocol balance to execute trades
- Can arbitrage from the pool
Additionally, Mean Finance positions are represented as ERC721 tokens, which are transferable and tradable—meaning selling or transferring an NFT allows another user to control that position.

4/ Mystiko
A Web3 infrastructure providing connectivity and confidentiality for blockchain data, transactions, and applications. It can be integrated to enable private transactions—not only across bridges but also within dApps, wallets, and blockchains on both L1 and L2.
It is not a mixer, but rather uses privacy-as-a-service (PaaS) via an SDK. If widely adopted, this could become a game-changer for future dApps and cross-chain bridges.

5/ Overtime Markets
A DeFi sports betting platform/sports market AMM built on Thales, operating exclusively on Optimism. Overtime Markets currently supports wagers on rugby, soccer, MMA, and baseball.
Its market data is fed through Chainlink oracles, enabling real-world data to be brought onto the blockchain.

6/ Sablier
A streaming payments protocol on L1 and L2 (Arbitrum & Optimism). In other words, "real-time finance." Streaming? Yes—just as movies stream on Netflix, tokens stream on Sablier.
Sablier is also integrated with Gnosis Safe.

7/ Speedboat
A Web3 toolkit for deploying NFTs without writing code.
Its two main products are:
- Self-service smart contract platform (deploy smart contracts or NFTs without any coding)
- Smart contract services (for deploying customized NFTs or smart contracts)
Speedboat plans to integrate Web3 APIs in the future, enabling any blockchain project needing integration to simply use their REST API. Currently, it is live on both L1 and L2, supporting deployment of ERC721/ERC721A contracts.
