Follow, the first decentralized social protocol designed for Web3.0, is officially launched
Follow is a blockchain-based decentralized social protocol that provides complete foundational development tools and standardized smart contract interfaces, enabling any individual or organization to build applications on top of the protocol.
On September 22, 2021, Follow—the first decentralized social protocol designed for Web3.0—was officially launched. Simultaneously, Follow.top, a platform built on the Follow protocol and dedicated to NFT-based social interaction, went live.
"Today’s internet is an oligopolistic market. Existing social media giants not only reap massive profits by monopolizing users’ social identities and data, but also arbitrarily change the rules of engagement, betraying the open spirit that the internet was originally founded upon," said Carl Huang, a member of Follow DAO. "Openness and sharing are at the core of the internet’s ethos. Whether building Web3.0 or expanding creator economies within the metaverse, we need new social infrastructure that embodies these principles. The emergence of the Follow protocol is precisely such an attempt."
Follow is a blockchain-based decentralized social protocol. By providing comprehensive foundational development tools and standardized smart contract interfaces, it enables any individual or organization to build applications on top of it. Applications built on Follow allow users to fully own their social identities and data, while also enabling interoperability and composability across apps—much like DeFi Lego blocks—forming a decentralized, hybrid-layered SocialFi network with a self-governed economic system. The Follow protocol features the following characteristics:
• Open-source, decentralized social protocol
• Free to use and open for anyone to integrate
• Unified identity authentication
• Built collectively by users and governed via DAO
• Full user ownership of data
• Robust economic system
NFT standards have opened the door to a flourishing digital art scene, yet the value of art relies on shared aesthetic understanding and deep social engagement. Creators need dedicated spaces to nurture community relationships and demand greater control over revenue. On existing centralized platforms, creators struggle to form meaningful connections with their audiences, while fans receive no tangible benefits from participating in communities.
Follow.top (www.follow.top) is a decentralized social platform focused on NFTs and the first application built on the Follow protocol. Users can freely access the platform to collect and appreciate NFTs, support creators, express personal opinions about artists and artworks they follow, participate in community building, and ultimately form exclusive communities with deep economic activity.
"Next, Follow.top will establish a complete value system, integrating NFT minting and trading functionalities, encouraging creators to issue social tokens so that every user can earn rewards by expressing their social value. In the future, Follow.top will become the most disruptive and scalable platform for digital art creation and social sharing in the metaverse," said Annie, a developer from the Follow.top community.
Currently, the Follow protocol operates on the Ethereum network and will gradually expand to Ethereum Layer2 solutions. Follow DAO consists of seasoned professionals formerly from Tencent, Alibaba, and Huobi. The long-term roadmap for Follow includes developing Follow Protocol v2.0, establishing an artist alliance, launching multiple NFT collections, expanding the DAO, and releasing detailed, community-driven governance guidelines.
As an innovative social protocol, Follow is not only one of the key drivers enabling large-scale adoption of Web3.0, but also a solid foundation for building a more vibrant and sustainable digital art ecosystem.
