Utexo Partners with x402 to Deliver Near-Instant USDT Payments for the Agent Economy
Utexo, the Bitcoin-native stablecoin settlement layer, has announced a partnership with the x402 protocol to integrate USDT support into the x402 payment system—enabling settlement speeds of up to 50 milliseconds and further expanding real-time payment use cases powered by AI agents.
Utexo, the Bitcoin-native stablecoin payment execution and settlement layer, today announced a partnership with x402 to bring USDT compatibility to the x402 payment protocol, enabling real-time, agent-to-agent transactions with settlement speeds as fast as 50 milliseconds.
x402 is an open protocol that embeds payment functionality directly into HTTP requests using the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code. This enables applications, APIs, and autonomous systems to pay for services in real time—without requiring accounts or pre-funded balances.
Through Utexo’s integration, developers using x402 can now transact in USDT—expanding beyond its initial USDC support and granting access to one of the most widely used stablecoins in global markets.
Utexo’s infrastructure is designed to handle high-frequency, low-latency transactions, making it especially well-suited for machine-driven payments demanding speed and reliability.
Viktor Ihnatiuk, Co-Founder and CEO of Utexo, said:
“x402 introduces a new paradigm for value flow on the internet by embedding payments directly within requests. Supporting USDT within this framework significantly broadens accessibility and delivers the performance developers need to build real-time, agent-driven systems.”
Kevin Leffew, Head of the x402 Project at Coinbase, added:
“Our goal in launching x402 was to make payments a seamless part of how the internet operates. Expanding support to additional stablecoins improves performance and widens the range of supported assets—helping accelerate developer adoption of x402 for autonomous and API-based services.”
This integration supports a growing range of use cases where software systems conduct transactions independently—including paying for API call fees, on-demand data access, and cross-platform service coordination—all without human intervention.
As AI systems and autonomous agents become more widely deployed, demand for fast, programmable payments continues to grow. By combining x402’s protocol with Utexo’s high-speed settlement infrastructure, this collaboration enables a model where transactions execute just as quickly and efficiently as the requests that trigger them.
About Utexo
Utexo is a Bitcoin-based stablecoin payment execution and settlement layer. It combines the Lightning Network’s instant execution with RGB’s privacy-preserving asset issuance mechanism, enabling payment operators to process USDT transactions instantly at predictable cost—and with full execution privacy.
About x402
x402 is an open payment protocol designed to make payments a native part of the internet by embedding them directly into HTTP requests. Built upon the long-dormant HTTP 402 status code, the protocol allows servers to request payment in response to queries—enabling instant, per-request transactions for APIs, data services, and machine-driven applications.
Early development and adoption of x402 have been closely tied to the evolving USDC-based stablecoin ecosystem—including tools and infrastructure emerging alongside Coinbase-related networks and developer platforms. This makes x402 an ideal choice for developers already building with on-chain payments and API-native financial flows.
By extending support to USDT and integrating Utexo’s high-speed settlement capabilities, x402 is expanding its reach beyond its initial user base—and advancing toward a truly asset-agnostic, internet-native payment standard.
