Today, Binance Labs officially announced its rebranding to YZi Labs. This change comes as the firm expands its investment scope beyond cryptocurrency and blockchain into artificial intelligence and biotechnology, while continuing to prioritize Web3 innovation—marking a natural evolution that better reflects its independent trajectory.
For years, YZi Labs has operated independently while leveraging the influence of the Binance brand. Now, with CZ stepping down from Binance, it is a natural progression for YZi Labs to establish itself independently and grow under its own identity.
Under the new brand, CZ will continue to play an active role in investment initiatives. He will directly engage with founders, providing personalized mentorship and strategic advice. This hands-on approach not only underscores YZi Labs’ commitment to creating value for the industry but also offers entrepreneurs a rare opportunity to grow alongside a visionary leader.
In addition, the return of Ella Zhang further strengthens YZi Labs’ leadership team. Ella co-founded Binance Labs with CZ and served as its first head. Under her leadership, Binance Labs launched its first three incubation cohorts, successfully supporting over 40 startups—including Polygon, Injective Protocol, CertiK, and Dune Analytics. In 2020, Ella left to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, and now she returns with extensive investment experience and a founder-first perspective, poised to drive further innovation and growth at YZi Labs.
Over the coming year, YZi Labs will focus investments on Web3, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, while exploring innovative intersections across these fields. Despite the broader scope, YZi Labs remains committed to backing projects capable of generating long-term impact and driving the next wave of industry growth—regardless of market conditions.
The organization plans to enhance its incubation program by reintroducing an immersive, 12-week, in-person residency model, fostering deeper collaboration and enabling founders to innovate and scale more effectively.
"Rebranding to YZi Labs is more than just a name change—it represents an evolution of our vision," said CZ. "We are expanding our investment focus into transformative sectors like AI and biotech. We’re thrilled to welcome Ella back to lead us into this next chapter. She played a pivotal role in our early success, and I’m confident that under her leadership, YZi Labs will continue to identify and support founders building for long-term impact."
Ella Zhang, Head of YZi Labs, added: "I'm excited to return to YZi Labs at this pivotal moment and look forward to reconnecting with our founders and community. While the rebrand marks a new chapter, our mission remains unchanged: to support visionary, long-term-focused founders. By exploring new frontiers like AI and biotech, while staying rooted in Web3, we aim to continuously push the boundaries of technology and application to create lasting value for society."
Additionally, YZi Labs will continue to provide the same level of support to all existing portfolio companies. The rebrand will not affect current programs, resources, or initiatives, including the incubation program and support for BNB Chain’s "Most Valuable Builder (MVB)" program. This transition not only signifies a brand upgrade but also reaffirms YZi Labs’ steadfast commitment to its core mission.
