In a hardcore technical project ecosystem, whether a super meme can emerge that builds teams, unites the community, and fosters community culture is crucial—it's not PVP, but rather a form of PVE: building community identity.

After in-depth conversations with several project teams, I realized many founders still don't fully grasp what the emergence of "AI Agents" truly means. Let me briefly share my take:
1) The AI Agent trend indeed started with AI MEMEs, creating a misconception: many builders see AI Agents merely as pretexts for shady groups to launch tokens—just like inscriptions, sparking a brief hype cycle centered on "asset issuance," only to end up in chaos.
The concern is valid—every boom brings noise. Yet the AI Agent narrative has been steadily evolving: from automated tweeting, to audio-video interaction, framework standardization, and even complex automated trading execution. This evolution reflects the growing involvement of serious builder communities. Good projects are displacing bad ones, driving the entire sector toward maturity.
For retail users, developing technical discernment during this process helps avoid most pitfalls. Recall when intent-based protocols were hot—many so-called "pre-programmed Q&A centralized bots" emerged. How could these possibly qualify as intelligent AI? Doesn’t that make sense? Calling such clearly low-effort projects mainstream AI Agents is absurd—like treating murder mystery games as serious storytelling.
2) AI Agents are just front-end applications. Behind them lie critical capabilities: data availability (DA) solutions on-chain, on-chain interactivity, asset liquidity, smart contract orchestration—and potentially deeper tech stacks like "chain abstraction" for improved UX, ZK-verified interactions, and more advanced architectures. A fully decentralized AI Agent-as-a-Service (AI-AaaS) stack will become essential.
Therefore, traditional blockchain infra embracing the AI Agent narrative represents a fresh opportunity—an upgraded infra stack that reshapes market expectations. Otherwise, the market keeps demanding "deliverables": user growth, app ecosystem expansion, VC exit relief, token price appreciation. Now, with a new compelling narrative, we can transform those delivery pressures into renewed "growth expectations." Isn’t that worth going all-in for?
At its core, this reflects the shift I’ve long emphasized—from "fat protocols" to "thin applications." Don’t expect to win over retail with just a whitepaper, roadmap, and linear tokenomics distribution to VCs and team members anymore. "Great products speak for themselves." Prioritize product, activate via community; once that happens, blockchain infrastructure will inevitably catch fire.
3) AI Agents don’t isolate MEMEs from technology. The market's obsession with either "VC tokens ignored" or "MEMEs rule everything" is a direct symptom of industry gamification—turning crypto into a casino. AI Agents can reunite the MEME-driven communities and technical builders under one unified narrative. No more division—only synergy.
It’s crucial whether a hardcore tech project can foster a powerful MEME within its ecosystem—one that unites the team and strengthens community culture. This isn’t PVP—it’s PVE: building collective identity together.
In fact, MEMEs as carriers of community cohesion should become part of a project’s Product-Market Fit (PMF). Deliver MEMEs to the community, empower those MEMEs with real tech, expand the chain’s ecosystem through apps and market traction, and finally unlock commercial potential through thoughtful tokenomics. ai16z has already proven this model works.
