HTX Ventures: Exploring the Convergence of AI and Web3
HTX Ventures is the global investment arm of HTX (formerly Huobi), integrating investment, incubation, and research to identify the most exceptional and innovative teams worldwide.
Redefining DeFi and Related Industries
HTX Ventures, the global investment arm of Huobi HTX, is leading the future integration of AI and Web3 technologies. Recently, an HTX Ventures Managing Partner elaborated on investment opportunities and challenges in this space during a panel discussion hosted by Google Cloud, further solidifying HTX Ventures’ strategic positioning in emerging technology sectors.
Converging AI and Web3: Investment Opportunities and Challenges
As AI technologies like ChatGPT disrupt industries across the board, HTX Ventures has adopted a cautious yet focused investment strategy, prioritizing projects that meaningfully integrate AI with blockchain technology and demonstrate transformative potential.
Based on involvement in crypto technology, the HTX Ventures Managing Partner divided future AI investment opportunities into three distinct layers:
● Infrastructure Layer: Technical solutions such as zkML (zero-knowledge machine learning) combine AI and blockchain to deliver highly secure, verifiable, and transparent systems.
● Execution Layer: AI enhances data processing capabilities, enables automated development of decentralized applications (dApps), and strengthens on-chain transaction security.
● Application Layer: AI-powered tools—such as trading bots and predictive analytics—are playing critical roles in DeFi. For example, Corex, an HTX Ventures-backed project, leverages AI to optimize its smart investment services. In GameFi, AI can enrich and innovate gaming experiences.
Building a More Secure Crypto World: The Role of AI and Investment
The HTX Ventures Managing Partner also highlighted several key factors investors should consider when evaluating AI and Web3 projects:
● Balancing Decentralization and Centralization: Many blockchain projects claiming to integrate AI still rely partially on centralized infrastructure for AI execution. Investors must carefully assess whether true decentralization of AI functionality is achieved.
● Limitations of Smart Contracts: The complexity of AI models far exceeds the execution capacity of current blockchain smart contracts. Approaches like zkML help bridge this gap by balancing off-chain computation with on-chain verification.
● Data Privacy Protection: While AI development depends heavily on vast datasets, Web3 emphasizes user privacy and data sovereignty. Investors should look for solutions that provide sufficient training data for AI models without compromising user privacy.
● Cross-Domain Talent: Both AI and Web3 are highly specialized fields. Project teams must include individuals skilled in both AI technologies and blockchain architecture. Investors need to evaluate whether teams possess the technical depth to overcome integration and innovation challenges.
Looking ahead, the HTX Ventures Managing Partner anticipates exponential growth in AI applications over the next 5 to 10 years, particularly in areas that boost efficiency and drive innovation. He believes decentralized AI, AI-powered smart contracts, and AI-driven Web3 content creation will become major investment themes.
During TOKEN2049, the HTX Ventures Managing Partner shared these insights at Google Cloud’s panel discussion titled “AI and Web3: Building a Trustworthy Digital Future,” engaging with industry leaders including Discus Fish, Founder and CEO of F2Pool; Walter Lee, Senior Business Development Manager at BNB Chain; and Frank Lin, Head of Corporate Development at Google. The HTX Ventures Managing Partner reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to advancing the convergence of AI and blockchain: “As AI continues to evolve, Web3 infrastructure must also be upgraded accordingly. The fusion of AI and blockchain holds the potential to reshape multiple industries, and HTX Ventures will remain at the forefront of this transformation.”
