RWA is one of the fastest-growing segments in terms of market size this year, attracting institutions and capital from all sides. This article by PANews reviews 26 RWA projects that announced funding in 2024, collectively securing $250 million in investments—mostly at the multi-million-dollar level. Investment interest in RWAs began to significantly heat up starting in the second quarter of this year, with funded projects spanning a wide variety of types.

Secured $250 Million in Funding This Year – New Projects Gain Favor
Capital flows often reflect market trends, and venture capitalists are now actively seeking new opportunities and growth drivers within the RWA narrative. According to PANews' incomplete statistics, the 26 RWA projects that publicly announced funding this year have cumulatively raised $380 million throughout their history, with nearly $250 million secured just in 2024 alone—surpassing last year’s total of $247 million and further highlighting the rising popularity of RWA this year.
In terms of funding scale, the average investment amount for these projects in 2024 was approximately $10.3 million. This figure is largely driven upward by three top-funded projects—Securitize, Huma Finance, and Lumia—which raised $47 million, $38 million, and $25 million respectively, accounting for nearly half of the total funding volume. The remaining projects mostly secured funding in the several-million-dollar range.
Looking at funding frequency, 10 of these projects have received multiple rounds of investment. For example, Securitize has raised five funding rounds since its founding in 2017, Centrifuge has been funded five times over six years, and Lumia completed three funding rounds since launching in 2018. In 2024, projects such as Lumia, Zoth, and MANTRA have continued to receive multiple investments within months, with sustained fundraising capabilities providing them with stronger competitive advantages.
The overall RWA funding pace began accelerating in May, with 11 RWA projects announcing funding that month, followed by seven more disclosing investments during the third quarter.
In terms of funding stage distribution, most investments targeted early-stage and growth-stage projects, primarily seed, strategic, and Series A rounds. Specifically, seed rounds were the most common, totaling 12 or 46.2% of all disclosed funding events, followed by five strategic investments (19.2%), two Series A rounds, and seven cases where specific details were not disclosed. This indicates that investors favor emerging growth companies.
Examining project launch timelines reveals that the majority launched only two or three years ago—62.5% debuted after 2022—with only nine projects operating for more than three years. RWA project types are also diverse, covering lending, AI, L2s, real estate, stablecoins, PayFi, bonds, and more.
Behind the surge in capital inflows are numerous high-profile investors, including BlackRock, Nomura Holdings, Binance Labs, Circle Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, and Wintermute—prominent traditional finance and crypto-native firms alike vying for positions in the space.
Market Size Soars into Double Digits – RWA Tops Growth Charts in 2024
As one of the key narratives attracting investor bets, RWA is increasingly entering the mainstream spotlight and has become one of the few rapidly expanding sectors in the crypto space this year.

According to data from RWA.xyz, as of September 25, the market value of RWAs excluding stablecoins has surpassed $12.6 billion. Tokenized U.S. Treasuries stand out particularly, reaching nearly $2.22 billion in market cap. Notably, BlackRock’s BUIDL and Franklin’s FOBXX manage around $520 million and $430 million respectively.
Moreover, the growth rate of the overall RWA market is truly remarkable. Data from Artemis shows that from the beginning of the year through September, RWA has achieved a staggering 301% increase in market value—the highest among all major sectors, far exceeding popular categories like MEME, AI, DeFi, and DePIN.

User adoption for RWA is also growing rapidly. Dune data shows that the number of RWA token holders on Ethereum alone has exceeded 136,000, representing a 134.5% increase since the start of the year.

As the RWA ecosystem expands dramatically, industry leaders express strong confidence in its future potential. For instance, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently expressed support for tokenizing company shares under the RWA concept, advocating for a broader diversity of RWAs on-chain so applications can utilize them without being exposed to systemic risks tied to single issuers or asset classes. Colin Butler, Polygon's Global Head of Institutional Capital, predicts tokenized RWAs represent a $30 trillion market opportunity, with high-net-worth individuals and private equity funds driving adoption by unlocking liquidity and accessibility for historically illiquid asset classes. Jamie Coutts, Chief Crypto Analyst at Real Vision, suggests that if the current two-year compound annual growth rate of 121% continues, tokenized traditional assets could reach approximately $1.3 trillion in value by 2030. Standard Chartered Bank and Synpulse have even projected that the tokenized RWA market could reach $30.1 trillion by 2034.
