Text by: angelilu, Foresight News
Bitcoin2024 concluded successfully in Nashville, USA, drawing global Web3 industry attention due to Donald Trump's appearance. This has also heightened interest in other notable Web3 events coming up in August.
Interestingly, in Eastern culture, "888" sounds like "fa fa fa," meaning prosperity and wealth, making the number 8 a symbol of good fortune. As such, numerous crypto events throughout August are concentrated in Asia, while the Western world appears to be taking a breather after a packed July schedule. Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Taiwan, Shenzhen, and Japan will all host a series of high-profile blockchain events this month. Foresight News presents your essential guide to navigating this vibrant Asian Web3 summer!

FORESIGHT 2024
Date: August 11–12, 2024
Venue: Hong Kong, China

Highlights: The most anticipated crypto event of August, FORESIGHT 2024, will take place in Hong Kong from August 11 to 12. Co-hosted by Foresight Ventures, Foresight News, and The Block, this marks the first time leading Chinese and English-language media platforms in the blockchain space have jointly organized a summit. Aiming to foster deep dialogue within the global Web3 community, the event is set in Hong Kong—the international financial hub—highlighting its core mission of “bridging East and West and narrowing regional divides.”
As a gateway to Asian Web3 and a nexus for East-West blockchain exchange, Hong Kong’s strategic importance is clear. During this bullish market full of opportunities, FORESIGHT 2024 will span two days of discussions on major topics including the recently approved ETFs, Hong Kong’s crypto market, AI and Web3 integration, Bitcoin and Layer 2 developments, and ZK technology.
The summit brings together top-tier Web3 figures, including Patrick Pan, Chairman and CEO of OSL; Pacman, co-founder of Blur and Blast; Anurag Arjun, founder of Avail; Steve Yun, President of the TON Foundation; Mo Shaikh, co-founder and CEO of Aptos; Rushi Manche, co-founder of Movement Labs; and Rok Kopp, co-founder and Chief Growth Officer of ether.fi—all confirmed attendees who will provide valuable insights and opportunities for networking and idea exchange.
India Blockchain Tour 2024
Date: August 2024
Venue: India

Highlights: India Blockchain Tour, hosted by Indian blockchain consulting and marketing firm Octaloop, is a nationwide blockchain event series now in its third year. This year, it spans six cities across India with the motto: “If you won’t come to the event, the event will come to you.” The remaining three stops in August include Mumbai (August 3), Bangalore (August 10), and Chennai (August 24). Attendees include Aishwary Gupta from Polygon Labs, Om Malviya from Tezos India, and leaders from local Indian blockchain projects.
Recently, Indian crypto exchange WazirX suffered a cyberattack in July resulting in over $230 million worth of digital assets stolen, making security a key topic of discussion. On the policy front, the Indian government plans to release a consultation paper on cryptocurrency policy before September. Current tax policies remain controversial, particularly the 1% Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on crypto transactions. The Indian crypto industry is pushing to reduce this rate from 1% to 0.01%. However, the finance minister’s recent budget speech indicated no changes to existing crypto tax rules. Thus, taxation is expected to be a major talking point during these blockchain events.
Malaysia Blockchain Week 2024
Date: July 31 – August 1, 2024
Venue: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Highlights: The inaugural Malaysia Blockchain Week 2024 took place from July 31 to August 1, organized by Lydian Labs. The event focused on education, regulatory advocacy, and showcasing innovative projects. A key theme was the Malaysian government’s support for the blockchain industry through regulation, reflecting local stakeholders’ strong interest in policy direction. Featured speakers included Matthew Tan, CEO of Etherscan; Bobby Ong, co-founder of CoinGecko; and Siong, co-founder of Jupiter—offering international participants a window into Malaysia’s growing blockchain ecosystem.
Asia Blockchain Summit 2024
Date: August 6–8, 2024
Venue: Taiwan

Highlights: Asia Blockchain Summit 2024 (ABS2024) will be held from August 6 to 8 at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei, Taiwan. Founded in 2018 in Taipei by Andrew Fai and Blocktempo Media Group, this annual summit features panel discussions on the role of governments in regulating blockchain and cryptocurrency industries. This year’s guest list includes Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin—the only event in August currently listing his attendance—alongside Hester M. Peirce, Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; Steve Yun, President of the TON Foundation; Lily Liu of the Solana Foundation; and Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer of Coinbase.
Notably, Taiwan has recently taken active steps in crypto regulation. In July 2024, Taiwan’s legislature passed amendments to the Money Laundering Control Act, bringing cryptocurrency exchanges (referred to as "coin merchants") under formal oversight. This signals Taiwan’s ongoing efforts toward regulatory compliance in the crypto sector. Against this backdrop, ABS2024 serves not only as a platform for technological and business exchange but also as a critical venue for observing and discussing regulatory trends in Asia—particularly in Taiwan.
Canada Crypto Week 2024

This week-long event centers on the latest advancements and applications in Web3 and artificial intelligence (AI). It includes the main Blockchain Futurist Conference along with satellite events such as book signings, workshops, ETHToronto, and the ETHWomen Hackathon. Date: August 16–18, 2024
Venue: Shenzhen, China

Organized by the Web3 Foundation, this summit and hackathon focuses on cutting-edge developments and applications in Web3 technology, covering topics such as blockchain language models, Web3 SDKs, decentralized AI stacks, and privacy scaling solutions. Speakers include Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot; Alex Gluchowski, founder of Matter Labs; Alex Pruden, Executive Director of the Aleo Foundation; and Kevin Owocki, founder of Gitcoin.
WebX 2024
Date: August 28–29, 2024
Venue: Tokyo, Japan

Highlights: WebX 2024 will be held in Tokyo on August 28–29, hosted by CoinPost. Themed “Cross-Industry,” the conference aims to explore the application of Web3 technologies across various sectors. Traditional Japanese corporations are increasingly entering the Web3 space—Sony Group recently acquired Amber Japan, marking its official entry into the crypto exchange field. Additionally, Japan continues to promote Web3-friendly policies. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is scheduled to attend the event, alongside industry leaders such as Binance CEO Richard Teng, Backpack co-founder Armani Ferrante, and Daniel Albert, Executive Director of the Solana Foundation.
Looking back at last year’s WebX event, it attracted 16,000 participants from over 40 countries, with the highest attendance from Asian nations including South Korea, China, and Singapore. In terms of overall market adoption, Japan ranks 18th globally in cryptocurrency acceptance. Data shows that Japanese users generate approximately 350,000 daily active users on centralized exchanges, indicating a sizable and active domestic crypto market.
