Neiro, the New Shiba Dog, Emerges as Successor to DOGE: The New King of Meme Coins?
Cuteness is the first productive force; memes are the first driving force of hype.

On May 24 this year, Kabosu—the original Shiba Inu behind the DOGE meme—passed away. While the crypto community mourned her loss, significant attention also turned to her owner, かぼすママ (Kabosu Mama). In the early hours of yesterday morning at 5 a.m., かぼすママ posted on X announcing she had adopted a new Shiba Inu named ‘ねいろ’ (romanized as "Neiro"). This immediately sparked multiple newly launched meme projects bearing the same name across the crypto space. This article by Odaily Planet Daily provides a brief overview.
NEIRO or Neiro: That is the Question?
Notably, the name "Neiro" was not coined by かぼすママ herself, but rather originated from a comment left by Own the Doge—a DAO that currently holds the copyright to Kabosu’s iconic image—on her post: "Much wow, welcome to the family Neiro." Around this ID, several representative projects quickly emerged, primarily including the following three:
Neiro: Lowercase Name, Meme Orthodoxy?

Japanese "ねいろ": The Most Authentic Meme?
The Solana-based meme coin "ねいろ" (literally meaning "tone" or "timbre" in Japanese), launched via pump.fun, is also seen as a symbolic representation of the new puppy. At the time of writing, the token price was around $0.00023, with a market cap of $233,000. It once spiked to $0.0018 before sharply declining. Despite the drop, many investors have taken positions due to its perceived authenticity.

In addition, numerous other meme coins named Neiro, NEIRO, and ねいろ have appeared, some even branding themselves as "The New Doge," such as CTg3ZgYx79zrE1MteDVkmkcGniiFrK1hJ6yiabropump, which holds a market cap of around $21.3 million and is worth watching. The Story Behind ねいろ
In her tweet, かぼすママ gave a simple welcoming introduction to the new Shiba Inu ねいろ: "We welcomed a new family member. Her name is 'Neiro,' meaning the color of music. She is a 10-year-old former rescue dog girl. For the past 10 years, Neiro has endured pain, fear, and sadness. But from now on, only happy and joyful things await. A happy life begins today!"

Like Kabosu, the original Dogecoin mascot, ねいろ also overcame significant hardships before finding a loving home. Moreover, around 8 a.m. yesterday (three hours after announcing the adoption), かぼすママ posted again clarifying: "I've seen many tokens related to Kabosu and Neiro. To clarify, I do not endorse any crypto projects except @ownthedoge, as they own the original Doge photos and intellectual property (which I’ve entrusted to them) and are dedicated solely to doing good deeds, charity, and spreading Doge culture."
The backstory here dates back to April this year, when the decentralized autonomous organization Own the Doge acquired the copyright to the original Doge images. Though the exact transaction amount remains undisclosed, it reportedly took three years to finalize. John Monarch, project lead of Own The Doge, stated that clearer IP rights open greater opportunities for collaborations with major brands—an emerging example of "meme power breaking into the mainstream."

Conclusion: Memes Never Die, Hype Never Stops
Within just about a day, Neiro has injected fresh energy into the meme coin market, spawning new "get-rich-quick" stories:
One address made a profit of $1.93 million from an initial $80,000 investment in Neiro, achieving a return rate of 2,397%. Analysis shows two phases of accumulation: 1) One minute after launch, it spent 15.089 SOL to buy 70.8 million tokens at an average price of just $0.00003914, then gradually sold off within six hours; 2) Re-entered when market cap hit $79 million, spending 420.75 SOL to buy 983,500 tokens at a much higher average of $0.07916, then sold all within an hour. According to on-chain analyst Ai Auntie, this address previously participated in various meme trades (including prior laser-eye trends) using a "lottery-style" approach, with a win rate of only 31.25%, suggesting it likely wasn't insider trading.
The deployer of Neiro turned 3 SOL ($552) into 15,508 SOL (~$2.85 million), a staggering 5,169x return.
He initially spent 3 SOL ($552) to purchase 97.5 million Neiro tokens. Later, he sold 68 million Neiro across multiple wallets for 15,511 SOL (~$2.85 million), realizing a profit of 15,508 SOL. He also transferred 10 million Neiro to another wallet and still holds 19.5 million Neiro (~$1.8 million), representing unrealized gains of $1.8 million.
According to Bubblemaps analysis, the developer of the Solana meme coin Neiro has so far profited $3.3 million, accumulating tokens from multiple addresses and currently holding 6% of the total supply. Although the team later denied these claims, stating the disclosure was inaccurate and that the developer holds only 1.6% with no plans to sell soon, the denial appears unconvincing. The project’s official X account was subsequently suspected of violations and possibly suspended.
As we previously argued in “Meme Coins: The Perfect Substitute for NFTs,” meme coin projects care more about “how much attention they can attract” than whether “the event itself is positive or negative.” Thus, both the passing of Kabosu and the adoption of Neiro quickly captured massive public attention, driving simultaneous increases in market热度 and liquidity.
With its blend of cuteness, charitable undertones, and viral potential, the new Shiba Inu Neiro may follow in Kabosu’s footsteps to become another internet-born meme phenomenon and a shared digital memory for a generation. The power of memes transcends time and space—and the hype around them will never cease, only ebb and flow.
