The Grass network can track data scraped by each node. When this data is used for AI inference or training, there will be a clear link connecting the scraping activity to the dataset. Once each node is linked to a wallet address, we can distribute the value generated by AI back to the specific nodes that provided the data.
This represents a step toward a fully decentralized method of tracking resource usage. These records cannot be manipulated or hidden by any company, meaning AI can become fairer and more equitable—individual users can actually receive a share of the benefits.
Considering you’re already providing these resources to companies for free, the only difference now is that you’ll actually get rewarded.

Laying the foundation for transparent AI training data provenance
With this feature, the network will not only track which node scraped which dataset, but also precisely where the data originated—the exact location on the web. At the moment a dataset is scraped, the network automatically compiles metadata about its source and the node that collected it, then batches and records this information on-chain, creating a permanent record of data provenance. This is a capability absent from other data supply solutions, and we believe it’s a critical piece in solving AI’s biggest challenges today.

Making AI more transparent and fair, reducing centralization
Consider the biggest issues affecting AI today. For developers, there’s no way to ensure your datasets aren’t contaminated unless you personally re-scrape everything to verify. For users, there’s no way to know whether the AI agent you’re interacting with is biased unless you can see exactly what data was used to train it. And for everyone, we face the risk of a few dominant companies monopolizing AI and controlling the most important technology of our time.
Grass aims to solve all of these problems. When developers can indisputably verify that a dataset came directly from its intended source, they no longer need to worry about data contamination. When such information is publicly available for individual models, users can be certain whether they are receiving truthful content or misinformation. Most importantly, when a system is built to return AI’s value to the millions of people collectively operating the network—not just a handful of large corporations—we can work together to make AI more equitable and less exploitative.
Other Progress
Beyond positive impacts on training data collection, Grass is also breaking technical barriers by introducing Live Context Retrieval—scraping data in real-time during inference to provide context for LLMs. This is a feature currently under development, non-existent elsewhere, and we’ll be sharing more details soon.
