2023 Sui Builder House Global Tour Concludes Successfully
Complexity is the nemesis of large-scale adoption; the ultimate killer dApp must be accessible.
Written by: Sui Chinese Assistant
The final Builder House of 2023 took place last week in Singapore, featuring a series of events focused on Sui’s present and future, including keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops. Among them, zkLogin was the highlight. As a new Sui primitive, zkLogin enables users to create accounts using Web2 authentication, paving the way for mass-scale Web3 adoption.
Beyond presentations and announcements, applicants of the Liquid Staking Hackathon met with judges to discuss their projects and also connected with staff from the Sui Foundation to receive project feedback. In total, the event attracted over 650 attendees, who had ample time for networking and left feeling inspired and enriched.
zkLogin Makes Web3 More Accessible
Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, presented the immense opportunities zkLogin offers to users and enterprises. As a native Sui feature, this new primitive is set to be a game-changer in onboarding new users into Web3. By allowing people to use familiar software such as Google, Twitch, and Microsoft for authentication, zkLogin eliminates friction currently encountered during Web3 account creation. It removes the need to create new credentials or remember seed phrases—users simply enter their Web2 username and password to receive a unique Sui wallet within the app powered by zkLogin. Zero-knowledge proofs protect authentication data off-chain while keeping on-chain activity private from the identity provider network.

Adeniyi contrasted the number of active Web3 wallets with fewer than 100 million Web3 accounts, highlighting this vast gap and emphasizing the potential of simple, native login primitives like zkLogin to usher in a new wave of user adoption.

Developers interested in integrating zkLogin can get started by reviewing the SDK and documentation.
Envisioning the Future of Web3
On the first day of the event, participants attended several panel discussions focused on the future of Web3, particularly developments in gaming and DeFi.
Ben Charbit from Life Beyond and Jin Lee from NHN, joined by Mysten Labs’ Jameel Khalfan, discussed the appeal of Web3 for gaming. Digital asset ownership drives player loyalty and engagement—something clearly distinct from Web2-only games—and has motivated more traditional game studios to integrate Web3 technology into their titles. Given the decline in play-to-earn trends, there was consensus that simpler onboarding methods, such as those offered by zkLogin, are needed to enable games to reach broader audiences.
Mysten Labs’ Alonso de Gotari joined Ray Pan from GSR and Mike Cahill from Duoro Labs to explore the next wave of decentralized finance innovation. While DeFi remains a breeding ground for technological and business innovation, it is still a niche compared to traditional finance. Ray emphasized that builders should consider market-making roles within their projects and ensure smooth integration processes, including stable APIs and engineer support. Mike expressed his hope to see more DEXs become leading markets for perpetual derivatives and for products to transition from decentralized ecosystems onto the blockchain.
Voice of the Sui Community
Various applications and projects from the Sui community also made appearances at this Builder House. Whether attending technical workshops hosted by the Sui Foundation's developer relations team in the developer zone, or engaging in conversations during social events, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to connect and learn from one another.
Some community projects even took center stage to share more about their work.
-
Cynthia Qu interviewed Josh Tobkin from SupraOracles, pioneers in cross-chain communication and oracle solutions. Josh expressed a desire to integrate with most DeFi projects on Sui—not only to provide reliable and secure oracle services for applications but also to help more of the community understand Sui.
-
Streamflow, a product that helps organizations manage team finances on-chain, announced the launch of its Sui version on the main stage at Builder House. They offer automated token vesting schedules, token locking, staking, and airdrops—all designed to support projects throughout their entire token lifecycle.
Vision for Web3 and Sui
During a Founders AMA session, Adeniyi joined Greg Siourounis, Executive Director of the Sui Foundation, onstage to share candid perspectives on the future of blockchain and Sui. They stressed that the key to future success lies in meeting consumer needs through differentiated products capable of competing with Web2. By solving real-world problems and removing unnecessary friction in user experience, adoption can accelerate and move beyond the current state. As Adeniyi noted, product teams like those at Mysten Labs should recenter empathy at the heart of the development process.
Special Thanks
We extend our gratitude to our global sponsor Jump, platinum sponsors GSR and Alibaba Cloud, and gold sponsors angelhack and HyperBC. Without their generous support, the Singapore Builder House could not have achieved such success. Their support and commitment to the Sui community are unparalleled, and we are deeply grateful.
Of course, we also thank everyone who participated in this Builder House and all the 2023 Builder House events. It has been an incredibly successful year for the Sui community, and we look forward to welcoming even more activities in 2024.
