After the post-COVID era, China's first offline Ethereum event, ETH Beijing Hackathon, is about to take place.
From April 5-8, 2023, the ETH Beijing Hackathon will take place at MetaSpace, Beijing's Wudaokou district's first Web3 metaverse café.
From April 5–8, 2023, the ETH Beijing Hackathon will take place at MetaSpace, Beijing’s first Web3 metaverse café located in Wudaokou. Organized jointly by PKU Blockchain DAO and the Web3 open-source university WTF Academy, this hackathon is supported by the non-profit Ethereum organization ETHPlanet and the Ethereum Layer 2 solution Scroll. The event also receives sponsorship from ten leading industry institutions, including Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, and Bixin Ventures.

Discussing the motivation behind the event, 0xAA, President of PKU Blockchain DAO and Founder of WTF Academy, shared with the Ethereum Foundation ESP Devcon team: “China has just reopened to the world after three years of pandemic lockdown. Ethereum Builders in China haven’t had local events for years, and the Chinese community has become one of the most underestimated globally. We’re eager to meet in Beijing and bring the energy back!”
Initially backed primarily by members of the PKU Blockchain DAO and WTF Academy communities, ETH Beijing has now gained support from blockchain associations at over 20 top Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Hong Kong. It is also supported by technical communities such as DoraHacks, Whale Tracking Ship (Bujingchuan), dapplearning, and Tintinland. Sponsors including Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, Bixin Ventures, TokenPocket, Starkware, Mask Network, LD Capital, Cocos BCX, Aspecta, and Galxe have provided extensive assistance beyond financial sponsorship. Notably, core members from renowned projects and VCs such as Consensys and Chainlink will attend the event in person, collaborating with participants to build the strongest ETH Beijing hackathon yet.
Since its official launch on February 21, 150 outstanding developers from both the Chinese and international communities have been selected through three rounds of screening from a pool of 400 applicants. All selected participants will receive complimentary meals, while students from outside Beijing will also receive accommodation and travel grants.
Over the course of the 72-hour competition, participants will develop projects across three main tracks—Public Goods, Layer 2 Innovative Applications, and Open Research—as well as dedicated sponsor tracks hosted by Scroll and Bixin. Winning teams will not only receive prizes exceeding $30,000 but also gain access to follow-up investment and incubation opportunities.
Throughout the event, a mentor and judging committee composed of organizers, co-organizers, sponsors, and supporting communities will provide on-site technical guidance. Mentors include: 0xAA – WTF Academy & PKU Blockchain DAO, Bob – Gitcoin, Master Cui Mian – Whale Tracking Ship, EO – FutureMoney Group, Frank Kong – Chainlink, Haynar – Galxe, Haoyun – ETH Planet, Kiwi – PKU Blockchain & OKX Ventures, Li Dongxuan – Bixin Ventures, Laura Shi – ConsenSys, Leo Yang – Starknet, Leo – Catcher VC, Uncle Li – AWS, Lin Chuan – PKU Blockchain DAO & ABCDE Capital, Nyk Ma – NextID, Pano – Cocos BCX, Sabrina Tan – Aspecta, Yi Tang – Qiming Ventures, Warren – TokenPocket, Xi Wang – Bixin Ventures, Young – Scroll.
This event aims to deliver an exceptional hackathon experience for Ethereum developers and researchers—showcasing the brilliance of China’s Builders to the world! We look forward to seeing you there!
