Roadmap vs Vision: Roadmaps Are Not the Optimal Solution for NFT Projects
Roadmaps are killing NFTs—now is the time to stop promising tokens or metaverses.

Roadmaps are killing NFTs. It's time to stop promising tokens or metaverses.
As cryptocurrency and blockchain technology evolve, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have emerged as a new form for digital art, gaming assets, and even identity verification. However, as more people turn their attention to this space, certain problems have begun to surface.

Since 2021, roadmaps have been a core component of most NFT projects. Many rely heavily on promises of future features and development timelines to attract investor interest—such as future token airdrops, partnerships with other platforms, or metaverse construction plans.
Yet these promises are often merely strategies to lure investors, not real solutions. In reality, many teams behind such projects lack either the capability or intent to deliver on these plans—or the plans themselves may be fundamentally unfeasible.
It’s simply an easy way to appear “professional.”
“No, we’re not just another PFP project—look at our roadmap.”
However, we’ve quickly learned three things:
• Roadmaps are easy to create;
• Hard to execute;
• And ultimately, not that important.
Why aren’t they important? Because the NFT space evolves too fast. Something that seemed “cool” a year ago might already be outdated today.
Take a look at these two projects that sold out in 2021.

Therefore, projects must remain flexible, yet still effectively communicate their vision. If holders don’t know where the project is headed, they’ll sell.
Here’s the solution:
Vision Map
The idea is simple: convey your purpose, but don’t tie yourself to specific products. The destination is set—but the path isn’t.
Let’s look at some examples:

Differences between Roadmap and Vision Map:
• Dates vs No dates;
• Specific deliverables vs Symbols and graphics;
• Linear timeline vs Vision board.
See the difference?

Hilumia (Azuki) and MocaverseNFT (Animoca Brands)—notice the similarities? This is no coincidence.

Yes, there will always be exceptions:
• Games should have roadmaps;
• Software can have roadmaps;
• Art does not need roadmaps.
But what about everything else?
Vision Map > Roadmap.
