AltLayer is an open and decentralized rollups protocol that derives security from underlying L1/L2 networks, designed to scale Ethereum. It serves as a modular and pluggable framework built for a multi-chain and multi-VM world. At its core, AltLayer is a system composed of multiple execution layers similar to optimistic rollups (called Flash Layers), enabling dApp developers to:
1) Rapidly launch fast and scalable rollups secured by Layer 1;
2) Use rollups on-demand, thereby preventing L1 congestion;
3) Retire rollups by settling their "end-of-life" state on Layer 1, making the entire system highly resource-efficient.
Currently, AltLayer offers two product suites to facilitate developer adoption:
Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS): A product for launching new, application-specific rollups. With RaaS, developers gain access to SDKs or dashboards to deploy application-specific rollups without needing to source nodes to operate them or build and maintain any code. Restaked Rollups: This infrastructure combines the ease of rollup stacks such as OP Stack, Arbitrum Orbit, ZKSync via ZKStack, and Polygon CDK with the powerful restaking mechanism of EigenLayer to deliver useful auxiliary services for application-specific rollups. Restaked Rollups are essentially a set of three vertically integrated AVSs created on-demand for specific rollups, compatible with any underlying rollup stack.
On July 1, 2022, AltLayer raised $7.2 million in seed funding led by Polychain Capital, Jump Crypto, and Breyer Capital.
