Devcon Recap | Insights from Engaging with 200 Developers at AltLayer Rollup Day
OKLink is always with developers, striving to "Build smarter, not harder" and shaping the future of Web3.
At last week's successful conclusion of the Devcon series events, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik delivered a keynote speech at Rollup Day on the theme "How Ethereum technology is preparing to support applications with mass adoption while maintaining decentralization," stating: "The blockchain world has more to offer."

Developers are undoubtedly a key driving force behind the advancement of the blockchain industry. Code is law! Applications built through countless lines of code add infinite possibilities to the on-chain world. And How to build smarter? might be the enduring question most Web3 developers constantly ponder during development. Driven by curiosity and mission, OKLink engaged in close dialogue with developers at Devcon Bangkok and its surrounding events over the past week, seeking answers together from the perspective of data infrastructure builders.
Talk with 200+ Devs
To better understand developer needs, we collected feedback from over 200 users via face-to-face conversations and surveys onsite at AltLayer Rollup Day.
Q1: What is the biggest challenge you face when building blockchains?
Most developers selected lack of comprehensive data tools, time- and resource-intensive efforts required for building on-chain solutions, and challenges related to cross-platform integration and compatibility.

Therefore, being able to access multi-chain data in one place and achieve seamless cross-platform connectivity will significantly reduce development costs and shorten development timelines.
Q2: Do you believe powerful multi-chain data tools designed for easy integration can help simplify development workflows? 97% of developers expressed confidence in the emergence and application of such multi-chain tools. Especially today, as AI technology advances rapidly, agile and intelligent development is no longer an insurmountable challenge.
Features like contract comparison, bytecode decompilation, and tools for real-time tracking of on-chain activities are widely used by developers every day.

Q3: How important is adopting solutions that allow developers to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure building? 69% of developers consider it crucial, 19% regard it as important, while 9% remain neutral. While laying solid foundations from scratch is essential, robust underlying infrastructure is the prerequisite for innovation.

Q4: Based on your development experience, do you think building smarter is more effective than building harder? 84% of respondents believe smart building is more important, enabling sustained competitiveness in the fast-evolving on-chain environment.
Build smarter, not harder—perhaps this is the grand challenge pursued by Web3 developers.

Vitalik's Talk During the Rollup Day session, Vitalik appeared in person and, starting from Rollup-related data, emphasized that Ethereum’s goal is to balance decentralization with practicality.

He also reminded all community members to pay attention to user account security, suggesting safeguards using personal hardware devices, family and friends, or special guardianship methods. According to OKLink statistics, in Q3 2024, total on-chain losses across the network amounted to approximately $743 million, a 58% increase quarter-on-quarter. There were 110 major attack incidents, including 61 phishing and scam events causing $340 million in losses, accounting for 46.03% of total losses. On-chain security remains critical, and both developers and Web3 users must continuously prioritize their account safety during development.

Finally, he said: "We can build applications that are both mainstream-friendly and decentralization-friendly. Many tools already exist, and more are under development."

How to build smarter?
In response to the issues raised earlier by developers, OKLink introduced its supported ecosystem and available tools to developers onsite, aiming to help them achieve the goal of "lightweight and convenient on-chain development."
1. Multi-chain Support
Developers no longer need to struggle with finding tools to access multi-chain data. Currently, OKLink Explorer and its API tools support over 55 major blockchain explorers and parse data from more than 200 chains, effectively resolving cross-platform integration and compatibility issues faced by developers.
This multi-chain ecosystem continues to expand rapidly and broadly, quickly adding support for popular L2 chains and features within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
2. Developer-Friendly Tools
"A craftsman must sharpen his tools before he can do his work well." Easily accessible, no-extra-cost tools help developers reduce costs, improve efficiency, and unleash creativity without worries. These include professional development tools such as explorer APIs, bytecode decompilation, contract comparison, decoding, and debugging tools.
In addition, the OKLink website hosts numerous popular topics, including BTC halving, Ethereum L2 data dashboards, trending projects, and more. With access to these key insights, developers and Web3 users can directly obtain research findings and curated real-time data reports—why wouldn't they? All the above tools and features can be easily accessed from the homepage by clicking the nine-dot icon in the top-right corner.
3. EaaS & RaaS Solutions For public chain builders, zero-cost blockchain explorer solutions open windows for on-chain data querying and intuitive display. EaaS (Explorer-as-a-Service) offers multiple features of interest to development teams:
✅ Full-featured Blockchain Explorer: A comprehensive and rich toolkit allowing users to freely explore blockchain transactions, smart contracts, and network analytics;
✅ Multi-chain Data: View assets, transactions, and addresses across chains with one click, and set private address labels;
✅ Powerful Search Engine: One-click search for addresses, blocks, NFTs, and other critical information across chains;
✅ Smart Contract Verification: View contract details, verify contracts, and perform read/write interactions;
✅ Robust API Services: Leverage scalable, comprehensive, and reliable API services to power your blockchain;
✅ All-in-One Service: Instant access to leading industry wallets, DEXs, and NFT markets with one click.
Currently, OKLink has partnered with leading Rollup projects such as AltLayer, Caldera, Lumoz, to jointly build solutions.
Direct dialogues with developers continue to inspire us in on-chain data exploration and refinement of cutting-edge tools. OKLink remains side-by-side with developers, committed to "Build smarter, not harder," shaping the future of Web3.
