TechFlow news, May 11: Guotai Junan International announced that, according to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission's (SFC) "Circular on Tokenized Securities-Related Activities for Intermediaries," it has submitted business plans for both "tokenized securities distribution" and "digital bond issuance," both of which have been confirmed by regulators as having no further issues.
It pointed out that Guotai Junan International submitted a wealth management-related business plan to the SFC on January 21, 2025, aiming to distribute tokenized securities or provide advice on them to clients, building upon its existing securities trading business. The types of tokenized securities covered in the plan include structured products linked to various underlying assets (such as structured notes and OTC derivatives), SFC-authorized funds and non-authorized funds, and bonds. On May 7, 2025, the SFC issued a confirmation email stating no further issues with the plan.
Meanwhile, based on its existing bond underwriting business, Guotai Junan International also submitted a digital bond issuance business plan to the SFC, enabling it to act as overall coordinator, syndicate capital markets intermediary, or "paying agent" in future digital bond issuance projects. The SFC confirmed on April 2, 2025, that it had no further issues with this plan.
