PhotonPay wins Adam Smith Award with innovative foreign exchange solution, reshaping global FX management landscape
In the future, PhotonPay will continue to increase investment in both technology and compliance, building a more efficient, secure, and scalable payment and fund management network for global enterprises.

TechFlow, an AI-driven global digital financial infrastructure platform PhotonPay, stood out among numerous international entries at the 2025 Asia Adam Smith Awards, winning the Recommended Award for "Best Foreign Exchange Solution". This prestigious international recognition not only reflects the judging committee's high regard for PhotonPay’s technological capabilities in foreign exchange management and global payments but also marks a significant step forward in the company’s journey of global financial innovation.
As its business continued to expand, PhotonPay’s original operational model—relying on multiple bank accounts—gradually exposed inefficiencies and risks in risk management. The fragmented account structure made it difficult to centrally manage liquidity and lacked real-time connectivity with global foreign exchange markets. Restricted by traditional banks’ cut-off times, any foreign exchange needs arising during off-hours could not be executed immediately and had to be postponed until the next business day, leaving foreign exchange exposures unaddressed.
In addition, cross-time-zone emergency transfers and daily cash management still required extensive manual intervention. Staff frequently worked overtime to meet global clients’ fund transfer demands, while cross-currency settlements inevitably faced T+1 or T+2 delays. Under mounting pressure from cost, efficiency, and risk control, PhotonPay urgently needed a foundational financial infrastructure that enabled round-the-clock automated fund allocation and foreign exchange processing—without requiring major technical overhauls—to maintain its competitive edge in the global payments industry.
As one of the first blockchain-based foreign exchange solutions launched by a major international bank, JPMorgan’s Kinexys leverages distributed ledger technology to provide enterprises with instant liquidity and on-chain FX capabilities through Blockchain Deposit Accounts (BDAs). This allows cross-border, multi-currency fund transfers to be completed in approximately 90 seconds, significantly shortening the traditional T+1 or T+2 settlement cycles. The system covers nine key operational locations worldwide and supports five major currencies, meeting most routine FX needs, while extending the processing window by around eight hours beyond traditional banking cut-off times—effectively overcoming time constraints inherent in legacy financial infrastructure.
More importantly, the solution introduces programmable payments, enabling automatic execution of fund transfers and management based on predefined rules and liquidity thresholds—eliminating the need for manual calculations or pre-funding even during holidays. Since going live, PhotonPay’s treasury team has seen a significant transformation in their operations. Tasks that once consumed substantial time—such as handling urgent cross-time-zone fund movements, manually monitoring FX exposures, and calculating daily repayment requirements—are now largely automated. This has freed the team from repetitive administrative work, allowing them to focus more on customer service, product innovation, and strategic management of global liquidity, significantly enhancing both resilience and efficiency in fund operations.
PhotonPay stated that its collaboration with JPMorgan Kinexys has further strengthened its foundational infrastructure capabilities in the globalization journey, enabling it to serve global customers more stably and responsively. Going forward, PhotonPay will continue to increase investment in both technology and compliance, building a more efficient, secure, and scalable payment and cash management network for global businesses.
