The 2025 Shanghai Blockchain International Week will once again launch this autumn in October
Decentralized technology is dissolving the boundaries of the traditional world, building a more open, interconnected, and free digital new world.
Witnessing the development of China's and the global blockchain industry for eleven consecutive years without missing a single event, Shanghai Blockchain Week 2025 will once again grandly open in October. On October 23, the "11th Blockchain Global Summit," hosted by Wanxiang Blockchain Labs, will serve as the core event of the international week, bringing together leading figures from across the industry. From October 20 to 25, during Shanghai Blockchain Week, dozens of side events—including technical sessions, project roadshows, and academic seminars—will take place simultaneously at multiple venues across Shanghai, creating a Web3 extravaganza spanning technology, business, and culture.

Eleven Years of Accumulation, Witnessing Industry Trends
Since the first summit was held in 2015, the Blockchain Global Summit has now entered its eleventh year, becoming a premier global event in the blockchain space, gathering top thought leaders from technology, finance, academia, and beyond. Legendary figures such as Li Lihui, former president of Bank of China; Xiao Feng, chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain; Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum; Nick Szabo, father of smart contracts; Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot; Juan Benet, founder and CEO of Protocol Labs; Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana; Sergey Nazarov, co-founder of Chainlink; Illia Polosukhin, co-founder of NEAR Protocol; Avery Ching, co-founder and CTO of Aptos; Jed McCaleb, co-founder and CTO of Stellar & founder of Ripple; Zeng Ming, former chief strategist of Alibaba; Steven Goldfeder, co-founder and CEO of Offchain Labs; Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and president of StarkWare; Jae Kwon, founder of Cosmos; Zhong Shao, professor at Yale University’s Computer Science Department and co-founder of CertiK; Zhiguo He, professor of finance at Stanford Graduate School of Business; Silvio Micali, Ford Professor of Engineering at MIT and Turing Award winner; Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands—have all attended, many repeatedly, delivering keynote speeches at the Wanxiang Summit.
Over the past year, public chain ecosystems have exploded, with trends like RWA (real-world assets) scaling into focus. At the same time, regulatory frameworks for stablecoins are gradually clarifying, and blockchain is evolving from a “disruptor” into an “enabler.” Against this backdrop, the 11th Blockchain Global Summit takes “Web3, Boundless” as its theme, aiming to explore how technological breakthroughs can drive the industry toward broader application scenarios.
Focusing on the Frontier, Driving Real-World Applications: Payments, AI, and RWA
This year’s summit will continue its tradition of high standards and professionalism, covering the following key topics:
-
Mass adoption of Web3: How to overcome user growth bottlenecks in infrastructure, finance, entertainment, and other fields;
-
AI + Web3: Using blockchain technology to solve trust issues, data monopolies, and incentive misalignments in AI;
-
Payments: Core value and industry transformation in Web3 payments, innovations in stablecoins and payment technologies, compliance and security;
-
RWA and compliance: Practical implementations and regulatory challenges of tokenizing traditional assets

Organizer – Wanxiang Blockchain Labs
Established in 2015 by China Wanxiang Holding Co., Ltd., Wanxiang Blockchain Labs brings together experts to research and discuss technological development, commercial applications, and industrial strategy. It provides guidance for entrepreneurs and insights for industry development and policymaking, promoting the use of blockchain technology for socioeconomic progress. Since its inception, Wanxiang Blockchain Labs has built a global Web3 community and developer network through initiatives including the annual Shanghai Blockchain Global Summit and Hong Kong Web3 Festival, hackathons, bootcamps, incubators, blockchain publications and services, training programs for developers and entrepreneurs, and blockchain and Web3 research, driving the popularization and advancement of blockchain technology.
Past Summits
On October 15, 2015, the inaugural summit, themed “New Blockchain Economy · Blueprint,” was widely recognized by the industry as a landmark event marking the beginning of blockchain development in China. The summit explored blockchain concepts and technologies from a theoretical perspective, examined security implications, and asked “What can blockchain do?”—laying out a grand vision for the technology. This set the tone for future summits: high-quality content, technically focused, dedicated to exploring blockchain technology and real-world applications.
In 2016, building on the success of the global summit, Wanxiang Blockchain Labs expanded the event into Shanghai Blockchain International Week, offering a richer platform to understand global blockchain technology and application advancements. That year’s international week consisted of the second Ethereum Developer Conference and the second Blockchain Global Summit, themed “New Blockchain Economy · Horizon,” calling on the industry to move forward with full momentum.
In 2017, as the industry faced uncertainty, the third Blockchain Global Summit aimed to advance the dawn of a new era with unwavering determination and belief.
In 2018, the blockchain industry experienced rapid growth but also encountered bubbles and chaos. Wanxiang Blockchain Labs organized Shanghai Blockchain International Week, featuring a hackathon, Demo Day, and the fourth Blockchain Global Summit, focusing discussions on “technical exploration,” returning to fundamentals and staying true to its original mission.
In 2019, marking the start of a new decade for blockchain, this pivotal moment saw the international week adopt the theme “A New Decade, A New Beginning,” aiming to unite global forces and launch the next ten years.
In 2020, as the industry shifted focus from technical research to real-world applications, the international week adopted the theme “Integrated Innovation,” exploring synergies between blockchain and emerging technologies like IoT and AI, crafting comprehensive solutions for diverse application scenarios.
In 2021, as blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, and 5G became increasingly integrated into all aspects of socioeconomic development, digital economy accelerated rapidly. “Digital Transformation” became the essential path to the digital economy. The central topic of that year’s summit was how blockchain could unlock its value to make “data” a true driver of business and economic growth.
In 2022, the eighth Blockchain Global Summit, themed “Chaining the Future Together,” was structured around the solar system with an opening ceremony and eight planet-themed conference halls, inviting industry leaders, technologists, scholars, and experts to share insights and dialogues on the future direction of blockchain.
In 2023, as the global blockchain and Web3 industries advanced deeply, with continuous technological and application innovations, the ninth Blockchain Global Summit, themed “Next Stop, Web3.0,” focused on cutting-edge topics and breakthroughs in blockchain and Web3.0, bringing together renowned domestic and international experts and project leaders to deliver a knowledge feast for attendees.
In 2024, the tenth Blockchain Global Summit continued Shanghai’s tradition of focusing on technological advancement and driving real-world implementation, centering on new themes like stablecoins and RWA, moving “from past achievements toward future possibilities,” and stepping into the next decade.
