Intellectual property (IP) is the foundation of artificial intelligence (AI). As AI reshapes every industry at an unprecedented pace, IP is emerging as the most important asset class of the 21st century — a $61 trillion market encompassing training data, scientific discoveries, brands, and creative works.
Story introduces a new framework for intellectual property, aiming to create an open, programmable marketplace for IP. As a peer-to-peer network for IP, Story is built to transform intellectual property into a programmable asset class, enabling permissionless trading, provenance verification, and monetization across AI and the broader internet.
This roadmap is a living, evolving document that grows alongside our community. Each update aims to enhance performance, unlock new possibilities, and strengthen the network.

We are refining governance mechanisms to provide the community with better decision-making tools and a simplified upgrade process.
Each feature undergoes rigorous testing, security audits, and real-world validation before release.
Q2 2025: Beta Product Release
This release focuses solely on product enhancements, requiring no node software updates, helping maintain network stability as the broader ecosystem integrates. The release centers on simplifying IP onboarding through two core components: the IP Portal and Story Attestation Service.

IP Portal (public beta): Story’s "home page," offering a simple, no-code way to register IP on Story (and all applications built on Story). It also provides an elegant visual browsing experience, allowing anyone to intuitively explore all IP registered on Story. This is a consumer-facing "GitHub for IP."

Story Attestation Service (public beta): a decentralized oracle network that verifies social identity, IP infringement/similarity, and other real-world signals to authenticate the legitimacy of each IP asset on Story, then records the results on-chain for users and developers. These attestations can be displayed in any application and will be prominently featured in the IP Portal.
Q3 2025: Full Technical Upgrade Release
The first major network upgrade since mainnet launch, focusing on enhanced performance and reliability. While introducing foundational improvements, we minimize disruptive changes to ensure a smooth experience for all users. Additionally, we will launch our flagship product IPKit — a frontend SDK with integrated UI components designed to simplify IP registration, retrieval, and monetization within any application.

Consensus optimization: improving consensus parameters and implementation to reduce block time and increase validator seats by 10–20%. Introducing state snapshots for faster node recovery and synchronization.

IP Core enhancements: optimizing the IP Core module to significantly improve execution efficiency for IP graph-related operations.

Dependency upgrades: updating底层 dependencies for the execution and consensus layers (CometBFT, EVM, etc.) for improved performance and stability.

Large-Scale Performance Optimization
How can we achieve maximum throughput for complex workloads? We are optimizing storage, execution concurrency, and moving computation closer to hardware.
Next-Generation Consensus
We are redesigning the consensus layer to reduce latency and support larger validator sets. We are experimenting with CometBFT upgrades, HotStuff consensus, and BLS signatures.
On-Chain Storage
We are exploring native, cost-effective methods to store large files directly on-chain, providing alternatives to external services like IPFS.
Privacy Protection
We are researching efficient and practical methods to enable privacy-preserving on-chain IP transactions and royalty payments.
Future-Proof Governance
We are streamlining community participation, improving voting mechanisms, and refining system upgrade protocols.
