Top 5 narratives to watch in 2025 and related projects
See you in 2025.

I won't waste time with a long introduction — 2024 has indeed been an incredible year. Let's jump straight into what I'm most excited about for 2025:
Alternative Virtual Machines (altVMs)
2024 was the year alternative virtual machines (altVMs) truly shined.
@fuel_network successfully launched on mainnet,
@cartesiproject continues steady progress, while MoveVM gains broader adoption through @Aptos, @SuiNetwork, and @movementlabsxyz.
2025 could be the breakout year for these alternative VMs, sparking the next wave of on-chain applications.

Notably, @fluentxyz's hybrid execution model will play a pivotal role in this space. By integrating EVM, SVM, and Wasm into a single execution environment, it offers developers the most comprehensive and flexible way to build applications. Even more exciting, its design is extensible — meaning any future VM can be added to the system. It might just become the "final solution" for virtual machines.
Chain Abstraction
Chain abstraction made significant strides in 2024. What began as a conceptual idea — creating a user experience where interacting with hundreds of chains feels like using just one — is now becoming reality.
Users no longer need to constantly switch wallets, manage multiple gas tokens, or — worst of all — manually bridge assets across chains.

Solutions like @ParticleNtwrk's UniversalX allow seamless trading of tokens across any chain via a unified interface — similar to Binance but fully on-chain. As this technology matures, it will enable new products and, more importantly, see widespread adoption among existing projects.
This trend highlights deep collaboration between projects, such as partnerships between @EverclearOrg, @SOCKETProtocol, and @NEARProtocol, as well as joint efforts from @sedaprotocol and @routescan_io.
The focus in 2025 will be on driving broader user access and adoption of these innovative solutions.
L1 Blockchains
If a year in crypto doesn’t bring new L1 blockchains, it’s missing some fun. In 2024, Sui and Aptos were undoubtedly the standout stars in this space.
So what about 2025? We’re set to welcome even more exciting new entrants.
@monad_xyz, @berachain, and @HyperliquidX might form the industry-driving "golden triangle."
In particular, Hyperliquid’s HyperEVM deserves special attention. With Hyperliquid gaining momentum recently, how its ecosystem integrates deeply with the exchange itself will be a key development to watch.
RaaS (Rollup-as-a-Service)
RaaS may currently be one of the least discussed areas. Why? Perhaps because it seems like a "boring business." Yet, many of the most valuable models often appear unexciting at first glance.
Rollups and L2s dominated crypto discourse (CT) in 2024, and that momentum isn’t slowing down.

With @inkonchain and @AbstractChain launching their services in the coming months, debates around the technology will continue. But one thing is clear: we’ll see more and more L2 chains emerge.
Whether general-purpose or application-specific, the data speaks for itself. Platforms like @Calderaxyz, a rollup-as-a-service provider, have already enabled around 100 new chains this year, offering rich integrations and customization options from day one.
Additionally, @conduitxyz and @alt_layer are following similar paths. The market demand for RaaS providers is becoming increasingly undeniable.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
According to data from @_kaitoai, AI captured over 40% of attention this year — unprecedented in scale.
But my gut tells me this is only the beginning. Eliza from @ai16zdao became one of the most popular open-source projects on GitHub over recent months. Could it serve as a bridge to attract new developers into crypto? Only time will tell, but it certainly has the potential to be an interesting entry point.

We’ve already seen early real-world results, such as @aixbt_agent developed by @virtuals_io. This agent continues drawing attention within CT while delivering remarkably accurate information.
Will future narratives center around "interpreting the minds of AI agents"? It's too early to say, but clearly, 2025 will see more AI agents taking over tasks once handled solely by humans.
Other Projects to Watch
-
@pendle_fi keeps achieving exponential growth and is now considered a veteran project in DeFi. Can its total value locked (TVL) surpass $10 billion in 2025? That’s a compelling question.
-
@_kaitoai is pioneering the InfoFi space. What will it evolve into? We should find out next year.
-
@Polymer_Labs is poised to become a strong contender in cross-chain interoperability — a topic I believe will be central in 2025.
-
@OndoFinance is helping major traditional institutions enter blockchain. Real-world assets (RWA) and asset tokenization are trending, though they haven’t yet broken through key bottlenecks. Will 2025 bring a turning point thanks to more favorable regulation?
-
@nillionnetwork's mainnet is scheduled to launch in February next year. Amid growing concerns over privacy, this project could make a significant impact — potentially leading a new wave of on-chain applications.
See you in 2025.
