What are the differentiated advantages of Aptos compared to Sui?
Aptos has gained favor among traditional institutions and investment firms, which may be a "resource-side" advantage stemming from its more web2-oriented approach that excels in compliance, stability, and security.

Truly impressive: according to the latest system report from Messari analyzing the @Aptos ecosystem, its total value locked (TVL) has surpassed $1 billion—up 19x year-on-year. Some may still be unaware; many might assume that Sui, with its continuous price momentum, is the true standard-bearer of this Move-based chain cycle. But understanding the divergent development paths of Aptos and Sui could shift that perception. Let's break it down simply:
1) Historically, both @Aptos and @SuiNetwork originated from former Facebook (Meta) teams—spun off after the Diem stablecoin project was halted due to regulatory pressure. Both are Move-based projects.
With strong web2 engineering DNA and innovation capabilities from major tech firms, whenever Move-based next-gen blockchains are mentioned, Sui and Aptos always appear together—rightfully dubbed the "Move Twins."
The difference? Aptos inherits Diem’s core genes, continuing its technical trajectory and design philosophy. Sui, in contrast, leans more toward web3-native use cases, boldly innovating and experimenting across multiple technical dimensions.
2) Take Move, their shared underlying language: Sui centers around Objects and uses a DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) data structure, reducing data communication complexity to achieve high performance. Aptos also embraces an object-centric model but retains the concept of Accounts—requiring stronger global data processing capability, powered by its Block-STM parallel execution engine and BFT consensus mechanism.
In simpler terms, Aptos reflects a classic web2 big-tech mindset. Leveraging BFT consensus and global transaction logic, it pushes high-performance TPS to the extreme—reportedly achieving theoretical peak throughput of up to 160,000 TPS. This is made possible by Block-STM’s ability to execute and validate batches of transactions in parallel, maximizing efficiency.
So while Sui may feel more native and innovative within the web3 context, Aptos—with its web2-style architectural focus—could hold greater long-term potential in blockchain technology and ecosystem scalability.
3) As highlighted in the Messari report, Aptos clearly leads in institutional adoption. BlackRock has expanded its BUIDL fund onto Aptos; Bitwise launched a staking ETP product on the Aptos chain; Franklin Templeton and Libre have both deployed funds on Aptos. Moreover, Tether (USDT) has released a native contract on Aptos, and Circle (USDC) is preparing to follow suit.
Evidently, Aptos enjoys strong favor among traditional financial institutions and investment funds—a likely result of its web2-oriented emphasis on compliance, stability, and security, granting it a distinct edge in resource acquisition.
Previously, such traits were sometimes criticized as “too traditional.” But in today’s U.S.-centric crypto landscape—driven by regulatory clarity and ETF adoption—this very strength is being amplified.
Sui has already undergone a round of explosive growth, expanding market imagination around the Move ecosystem. Meanwhile, Aptos—focused on large institutions, steady development, and foundational finance infrastructure—is now just awaiting its own breakout moment.
4) Precisely because of its compliance-first orientation, Aptos has strategically prioritized real-world asset tokenization (RWA) and Bitcoin ecosystem integration (BTCFi) as core pillars of its ecosystem growth. For example, Aptos partnered with @OndoFinance to bring USDY into its ecosystem, integrating it with major DEXs and lending protocols. It’s collaborating with Probase on tokenizing real estate projects. Through its ecosystem project @EchoProtocol_, Aptos is actively building within BTCFi, offering a guaranteed 10% APY for native BTC flowing into the Aptos ecosystem.
Clearly, Aptos’ strategic positioning aligns with future-facing narratives—distinct from other ecosystems chasing short-term DeFi trends or FOMO-driven hype. Its consistent, methodical approach patiently awaits the dawn of new narratives like RWA and BTCFi.
