Sonic raises $12 million to build the first Solana L2 born for gaming
Sonic is committed to driving more developers into the Solana gaming ecosystem by launching an incubation fund and acceleration program to help them get familiar with Sonic SVM (Solana Virtual Machine) and the HyperGrid scaling framework.
Sonic, Solana’s atomized SVM Layer 2, has announced the completion of a $12 million Series A funding round led by Bitkraft, with participation from Galaxy Interactive, Big Brain Holdings, Matt Sorg (Solana founding team), Nom (Bonk), and other institutions and individuals.

The latest funding will be used to drive product upgrades and ecosystem expansion for Sonic. As the first SVM L2 to achieve atomic interoperability with Solana, Sonic enables rapid synchronization between its Layer 2 network and the Solana mainnet. Developers can share programs, states, and data from the mainnet without redeploying contracts. Additionally, Sonic integrates infrastructure tailored for Solana game development and deployment—such as sandbox environments, customizable game development modules, and extensible data types—combined with the parallel execution model of the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) and localized fee markets, delivering faster transaction speeds and lower, more stable fees for on-chain gamers, enabling smoother and more responsive gameplay experiences.
Sonic is committed to attracting more developers into the Solana gaming ecosystem by launching an incubation fund and accelerator program to help them become familiar with Sonic SVM (Solana Virtual Machine) and the HyperGrid scaling framework. HyperGrid allows developers to seamlessly deploy new game engines and virtual machines within the Solana environment, acting as a grid deployment toolkit to spin up new SVM instances, creating dedicated spaces for each new game on the Solana network.

Solana is currently one of the most developer- and user-friendly public blockchains, largely due to its low barriers to entry and explosive growth in meme culture. However, its gaming ecosystem has yet to achieve success commensurate with its scale—a challenge that Sonic aims to solve through technological innovation. With Sonic, developers can deploy their own dedicated SVM chains with one click, accelerating the realization of diverse gaming narratives on Solana.
Chris Zhu, CEO of Sonic, said: “Over the past two years, we’ve collaborated with hundreds of Web3 games, helping them monetize and issue assets. We place great importance on Solana because it offers a complete suite of tools and frameworks for gaming. We believe Sonic SVM will be the catalyst for an explosion in the Solana gaming ecosystem. With our support, thousands of games will come to life and reach mainstream audiences.”
Jens Hilgers, Partner at Bitkraft, said: “The Mirror World team has demonstrated remarkable resilience, adaptability, and creativity. Sonic SVM and HyperGrid will propel not only Solana but the entire gaming ecosystem forward. We firmly believe this will become the future paradigm for Web3 gaming as Solana continues to capture market attention.”
Sonic was built by Mirror World Labs, a company deeply rooted in the Solana ecosystem. Following a $4 million seed round in early 2022, this Series A brings its total funding to $16 million. Mirror World Labs focuses on developing Solana-based gaming infrastructure, offering comprehensive technical solutions across all stages of game development and lifecycle management.
