Mainstream Public Chains Riding the Meme Wave: Lunar New Year "Year of the Dragon" Hype盘点
Jia Chen Year, the Wealth Treasury Year. With the Azure Dragon guarding wealth, encountering one treasury brings ten years of prosperity.
By Peng SUN, Foresight News
The year of Jia Chen corresponds to the heavenly stem "Jia" and earthly branch "Chen," associated with the Wood element in the Five Elements system. "Chen" represents the Dragon. Capable of storing water and accumulating earth, it harbors the vitality of Yi Wood, the nourishment of Gui Water, and the stability of Wu Earth. For those born under Wu and Ji, the Year of the Dragon is a treasure year—guarded by the Azure Dragon. As an old saying goes, “Encounter one treasury, enjoy ten years of wealth.”
Recall the 2022 Spring Festival Gala, when Shen Teng repeatedly mentioned “DogKing in the Metaverse” in the skit “Will You Pay or Not?” Subsequently, the cryptocurrency DogeKing surged 5,000-fold over two nights. With the arrival of the 2024 Lunar New Year, “Dragon”-themed Memecoins and inscription projects are gaining momentum across major public blockchains—whether Silly Dragon on Solana or DINO on Avalanche, their popularity remains undiminished.
However, the rise of the “Dragon” concept is not solely due to Chinese cultural influence—in fact, it originated in the West. During Halloween 2023, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko appeared at the Amsterdam Solana Breakpoint 2023 meetup dressed as a “Silly Dragon.” Shortly after, “Silly Dragon” launched on Solana. After gaining attention from Anatoly, the token surged over 80x, breaking 0.13 USDT today and reaching an all-time high.

In Western culture, dragons appear in ancient Greek, Babylonian, Christian, Norse mythology, Celtic traditions, and Anglo-Saxon legends. They symbolize strength and divinity for Vikings, Celts, and Anglo-Saxons. In Christian biblical narratives, the legend of “Saint George and the Dragon” portrays the dragon as a hoarder and the embodiment of evil. In China, dragons have been worshipped as totems since the Shang and Zhou dynasties—the sovereign of all creatures, bringing gentle rains and blessings to the land, symbolizing peace and prosperity. From the Qin and Han dynasties onward, the dragon became a political-religious symbol representing wealth, wisdom, and power.
“Investing in Dragons during the Dragon Year” has become a shared cultural meme between East and West, beyond just dog-themed tokens. With this in mind, Foresight News compiles recent “Dragon”-themed Memecoins and inscription projects across major public blockchains for our readers.
