On July 5, 2023, Neo announced a collaboration with OKX to launch the new season of its Asia-Pacific Hackathon. The event will take place from July to October and feature on-site activities in six Asian cities. Additionally, a series of online sessions will be held to support participants and teams who may not be able to attend in person, ensuring that everyone interested has the opportunity to participate. The Neo Foundation is providing a total prize pool of $120,000 for the hackathon, along with $1 million in post-hackathon grants.
Participants this year can explore projects across five categories: Decentralized Finance and Payments; NFTs and Gaming; AI, Social, and DAOs; Infrastructure and Tools; and Open Innovation. Each category will award a final prize of $10,000. Winners will be announced at the Hong Kong finals and awarded in NEO tokens.
In recent years, with the rise of new ways of working, Web3's value has gained global recognition. This hackathon reflects the growing convergence between the digital and physical worlds. OKX and Neo will work together to maximize impact and participation across the Asia-Pacific region. Notably, team registration for this hackathon will run from July 5 to September 24, while project submissions will be accepted from July 22 to September 24. The winning teams will be announced at the Hong Kong celebration in October.
Da Hongfei, founder of Neo, said at the launch of the hackathon: "Through this event, we aim to attract and support the most talented Web3 developers and startups, while officially showcasing the capabilities Neo offers to developers. The prize money and grant funding will provide crucial seed capital for winning projects. We hope to offer a platform for outstanding Web3 talent across the Asia-Pacific region to showcase their abilities, and we look forward to seeing their exceptional work."
The collaboration between OKX and Neo will generate strong synergies and amplify impact. During the event, OKX will empower the hackathon through NFTs. Officials have revealed that teams holding these NFTs may gain direct technical engagement opportunities with the OKX Web3 team and initiate further collaborations.
Jason Lau, Chief Innovation Officer at OKX, said: "We are committed to participating in and advancing industry infrastructure. Our vision is to drive better industry development through technological progress. This joint hackathon with Neo represents OKX’s practical effort to encourage Web3 innovation. We hope to uncover the most promising Web3 innovations in the Asia-Pacific region and elevate the influence of its developer community. Moving forward, OKX will continue to focus on fostering innovation and supporting innovators, building the future of Web3 together with builders."
P.S.: Neo will provide travel grants for the 20 teams selected to attend the Hong Kong finals.
