Eclipse Mainnet is an Ethereum L2 that, like most Rollups, chooses Ethereum as its settlement layer and uses ETH as its Gas token, allowing users to inherit certain security properties from Ethereum.
For its execution environment, Eclipse has selected the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM). The Eclipse team believes SVM will bring significant advantages to Eclipse Mainnet, such as:
Performance: SVM enables greater parallelism for multiple transactions, whereas most virtual machines (such as EVM) are typically single-threaded.
Security: The Rust programming language makes it easier to prevent many errors that Solidity cannot block.
Community: Compared to newer virtual machines like Move VM or Fuel VM, SVM offers better tooling and developer support.
For data availability, Eclipse has chosen to publish its data to Celestia, as Celestia's DAS light nodes support highly scalable DA throughput, enabling Eclipse to accommodate more users.
Finally, Eclipse Mainnet will use RISC Zero to generate ZK fraud proofs without intermediate state serialization.
On September 27, 2022, Eclipse completed a $9 million seed funding round led by Tribe Capital and Tabiya.
