TechFlow, May 14 — According to The Guardian, Iain McNicol, former general secretary of the UK Labour Party and current member of the House of Lords, has issued a public apology for breaching parliamentary conduct rules. An investigation revealed that in June 2023, McNicol wrote a letter to the Treasury promoting the cryptocurrency firm Astra Protocol while receiving monthly consultancy fees from the company. Margaret Obi, the House of Lords Standards Commissioner, ruled this constituted "providing paid parliamentary services," violating the code of conduct for members.
