TechFlow news: On June 2, OpenAI launched a global initiative titled “AI Safety and Development Opportunities for Youth,” planning to prioritize related topics at the upcoming G7 Summit and calling for the establishment of a dedicated international AI safety body for youth to advance cross-border collaboration and long-term governance mechanisms.
OpenAI stated that AI is creating significant opportunities for young people in education, language learning, skills training, and career preparation—but it also emphasized the need to establish a usage framework grounded in “default safety and tiered protection.” This framework would prohibit targeted advertising and data sales targeting minors, including: identifying minors via privacy-preserving methods and automatically enabling safety modes; establishing an annual youth risk assessment mechanism; providing parents with actionable control tools; enhancing transparency and safety disclosures; and implementing response mechanisms for high-risk scenarios such as self-harm and exploitation.
